Children need so much movement throughout the day, and Montessori classrooms and materials are designed with that in mind.
You’ll often find children lying on the floor with their work, or moving back and forth across the classroom as they gather the materials they need. Much of our practical life work requires carrying heavy things or squatting down or reaching high! We want to encourage effortful movement throughout the day as much as we can.
“Children develop their brains as well as their bodies through movement, and in the process of concentration, self-discipline, and perseverance with an active interest, the foundations of character are laid.” -Dr. Maria Montessori
