Important VHSL Eligibility Notice for Incoming 9th Grade Student-Athletes
Campbell County Public Schools would like to make families aware of an important Virginia High School League (VHSL) eligibility rule that will affect incoming 9th-grade student-athletes beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, 9th-grade students must have attended the feeder middle school associated with their high school in order to be eligible to participate in athletics as freshmen, unless there has been a bona fide move.
Students who did not attend the appropriate feeder school as an 8th grader and do not meet the criteria for a bona fide move will be:
• Ineligible for athletics for 365 consecutive calendar days
Families with questions about athletic eligibility should contact the high school athletic director at the school their child plans to attend.
This rule is in accordance with Virginia High School League (VHSL) Rule 28A-7-2.
