Real-world learning starts with real-world challenges🤝

Students in Bethany Swindell’s Introduction to Emergency Management IPBL course heard directly from local community partners who pitched their organizations as projects for the semester.

Students will work in groups to develop emergency plans for partners like City Corporation, ARVAC, Inc., and River Valley Christian Clinic gaining hands-on experience while creating resources our community partners can put to use.

A big thank you to Steve Mallett, Holli Hall, Brooke Kessinger, and Becky Beavers for investing their time and expertise in our students!

With the second week of classes almost in the books, we’re officially getting back into the groove here at ATU! 💚💛

Before the semester got underway, we enjoyed connecting with faculty during Faculty Professional Development Day and the Faculty Resource Fair. It was a great opportunity to share resources, make connections, and learn more about the many ways we can support our students throughout the year.

Here’s to a great semester ahead👏

We got to hear all about the amazing things Sara Jondahl and Dr. Katie Myers w/ Arkansas Tech University College of Education and Health are planning and doing this semester in their IBPL classes!

IPBL — Interdisciplinary Project-Based Learning classes are designed to bring together ATU students and community/industry partners to help solve real-world problems. The work that’s being done here is so important and we’re so excited to see what this next semester brings!

A big thank you to Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO) for hosting ATU faculty and staff this week!

It was a great opportunity to learn more about nuclear energy, tour the facilities, and gain a closer look at the important work happening right here in our region (and only about 7 miles from campus!)

We’re grateful for community partners like ANO who continue to connect with ATU and create opportunities for collaboration, learning, and workforce development💡🤝

New Faculty Academy🤩

CCEAO got to help welcome this year’s newest faculty members to ATU. We talked all things IPBL, community connections, and obviously the best places to hang out in Russellville! We also got to show off Co-Create Innovation Hub to them, and tell them all the ways they can utilize this amazing space!

Welcome to ATUđź’šđź’›

Do you have an organizational challenge that technology could help address?

Arkansas Tech University’s Computing Sciences program is seeking real-world project ideas for senior capstone teams.

Community and industry partners are invited to meet with ATU faculty members Becky Cunningham and Robin Ghosh to discuss organizational needs and explore whether they could become student projects.

You don’t need a fully developed project or technical solution—just a challenge, inefficiency, or opportunity your organization would like to address. Our faculty will help determine whether it may be a good fit for a capstone team.

Potential projects might include:
• Websites
• Databases and dashboards
• Mobile applications
• Scheduling or reporting systems
• Automation tools
• Artificial intelligence solutions
• Custom software solutions

Choose either workshop session:
Wednesday, August 5, or Thursday, August 6
1:00–3:00 p.m.
Co-Create Innovation Hub
215 South Arkansas Street
Russellville, Arkansas

The workshop will include networking, brief presentations, small-group discussions, and individual project consultations with faculty.

Unable to attend? You can still submit a challenge, process, or idea for consideration: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=0v-3fW3bFkS9bXHx3nmU0u1yIjZYv_VAqwfxcv7YdadURFhRTEVDWjRKSThHTVlRQlZLOFpMOTVWMS4u&route=shorturl

Selected projects will begin in September, with student teams working alongside partner organizations throughout the academic year to plan, design, and develop solutions. Projects will conclude in April with final delivery and public showcase presentations.

We hope you will join us as we connect the expertise of our community and industry partners with the creativity and technical skills of ATU students and faculty.
