Our Fisheries and Wildlife graduate students recently traveled to the University of Massachusetts Amherst for the 2026 American Ornithological Society Conference! 🐦

Centered around the theme “Hope Is the Thing with Feathers,” the conference brought together researchers and professionals to share scientific research from across the field of ornithology.

Each student worked closely with a faculty mentor to study, develop, and present their research:

• Ella Bollinger & Dr. Barron, “Assessing Biting Fly and Mosquito Attraction to Eastern Bluebird (Sialia sialias) Nests”
• Nicole Bow & Dr. Nupp, “Long-term trends in adult and fledgling Interior Least Terns (Sternula antillarum athalassos) in the Arkansas River Valley, Arkansas”
• Mason Dillard & Dr. Kellner, “Overwintering Grassland Bird Community Responses to Fire Management”
• Dustin Kohler & Dr. Kellner, “Habitat selection of the Cerulean Warbler (Setophaga cerulea) in Ozark oak-hickory forests and considerations for forest management”
• Dr. Barron, “Changes in bird vocalizations in response to a total solar eclipse”

We are proud to see their hard work amongst fellow researchers and professionals within the broader ornithological community 🌟

Hello from ANO ☁️

Yesterday, Center for Community Engagement and Academic Outreach + Entergy hosted us for a “Day at the Plant,” allowing us to experience Arkansas Nuclear One from an employees perspective! We participated in simulations, toured the facility, listened to presentations, and met some of the incredible professionals who help keep ANO running safely every day.

We’re excited for our students to get this same hands-on look at the careers, technology, and people behind nuclear energy this fall 👀

And don’t worry… everything is still running smoothly after we left…as long as Dr. Shojaei doesn’t press the button 😂🚨

GearUp Camp was so nice, we hosted it twice! 🤪

Yesterday, week two’s Arkansas Tech GEAR UP campers spent the day investigating the mysteries of the universe, exploring the elements that make up our cosmos, examining aquatic ecosystems beneath the surface, and putting their brains and problem-solving skills to the test in a coding escape challenge 🧠

At ATU STEM, learning goes beyond the classroom, giving students opportunities to ask questions, think critically, and experience science in action. We loved hosting another incredible group of future innovators! ✨

Yesterday, ATU STEM welcomed GEAR UP campers for a day of hands-on discovery, problem-solving, and exploration! 🚀🔬🌎

Campers traveled from the depths of aquatic ecosystems to the far reaches of the galaxy as they discovered the universe, uncovered the chemistry behind elements in our world, investigated life below the surface through aquatic ecology, and put their critical thinking and competition skills to the test in binary breakout: escaping the digital vault.

From science and technology to teamwork and creativity, students spent the day learning by doing...and of course having fun along the way! We loved hosting these future innovators and can't wait to see where their curiosity takes them next ✨

We’re kinda busy… 💡

Today, we visited our neighbors on the hill over in the University of Arkansas Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Fayetteville Public Library Center for Innovation to explore new ideas, innovative programming, and opportunities for collaboration.

From experiential learning to community engagement, these folks are doing incredible work. Our team left inspired by strategies and partnerships that could help shape future initiatives both on our campus and throughout our community!

Sometimes the best ideas start by seeing what’s possible 🚀
