Grace Kauffman stepped in the ring to show livestock for the last time as an FFA member this week at the Missouri State Fair. Grace has been showing for the last 13 years since she was 9 years old.

What did you enjoy about showing?
Showing cattle is something that my family and I are very passionate about. The cattle that we show are livestock that we have raised on our family farm. Our family for years have joked that showing cattle and traveling to cattle shows is what we do as our family vacation every year.

Favorite showing memory?
My favorite showing memory was in 2023, this was the year that my family had achieved great things. I had won Grand Champion Heifer, my brother won Reserve Champion Steer, and it was also the last year that my siblings and I all got to show together.

Advice about showing?
Enjoy each and every time that you walk into the show ring. Showing livestock will be one of the greatest opportunities that you will get to experience, it takes hard work and dedication. The very last time that you walk out of that show ring you will wish that you could have just one more minute in there doing what you love, and believe it or not you will miss the days of working with your calves and the memories that are made in the barn with your siblings. Never give up, just because one judge doesn't pick you doesn't mean that the next one won't. Lastly, showing is like a sport, you have to put the time and effort in because it's not just something that magically happens over night.

Who would you like to thank?
I want to start off by giving a HUGE thanks to my parents, grandparents, and siblings. If I didn't have this support team I would not have been able to experience the show world. Thank you to my dad who hauls our livestock to all the shows, and makes all of the show dreams come true. Thank you to my mom who is always there capturing the moments and making sure all of the kids have something to eat, but always being the one who tells you "You got this". Thank you to my siblings who have helped me over the years and being the greatest support team that you could ask for. Thank you to those who came and watched and cheered me on, and no matter the outcome always told me good job. Lastly, thank you to my AG teachers for supporting my family and I every place that we went. I couldn't have done it without you guys and I really appreciate it!

Grace; your advisors are SO proud of your hard work and we are humbled that we have been able to be part of this journey for over a decade with you and your family. Thank you!
