🌱 Russell County School Nutrition is ALL IN for Ag Education Week! 🍓🍎🍉

Next week, September 21–25, we’re celebrating Kentucky Ag Education Week by bringing Farm to School right into our cafeterias!

Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to enjoy fresh, locally grown Kentucky produce, including pears, strawberries, watermelon, apples, and cherry tomatoes. 🍐🍓🍉🍎🍅

Our local produce is provided by Vaughn’s Green River Valley Farm Products, giving us the opportunity to serve Kentucky Proud foods while supporting Kentucky farmers and teaching our students a little more about where their food comes from.

We’re excited to celebrate Kentucky agriculture all week long! 💚

🍽️ What's for lunch today?

Today’s lunch at all Russell County elementary schools and Russell County High School features mashed potatoes, popcorn chicken, corn and gravy! Students can choose to pile everything together into a delicious bowl or enjoy each item separately.

And the choices don’t stop with the main menu! Students can also choose a homemade pizza lunch kit or a jammer with a cheese stick, along with the fruits and vegetables offered on the daily menu.

🍎 So many choices for lunch today at our elementary schools! 🍊

Today’s main menu features Orange Chicken, Vegetable Fried Rice, Asian Vegetables, Egg Roll, Carrot Sticks, Pineapple Tidbits, and a Fortune Cookie!

Students who want something different can choose a Homemade Pizza Lunch Kit or a Jammer with a Cheese Stick — and choosing one of these options doesn’t mean missing out on the fruits and veggies! Students can still choose from all of the same fruit and vegetable options offered that day.

Today’s additional fruit choices include apples, bananas, and frozen fruit cups, along with several milk choices.

🍎 Breakfast at RCHS = LOTS of choices! 🥐

Students have plenty of options to build a breakfast they’ll enjoy! In addition to the featured menu item each day, students can choose from a variety of other entrée choices, including:

🍗 Chicken Biscuits
🌭 Sausage Biscuits
🥣 Multiple cereal choices
🧁 A variety of pastries

And there’s even more to choose from!

🍎 Fruit: Fresh fruit, fruit cups, frozen fruit cups & more
🧃 Juice: Multiple flavors available
🥛 Milk: Chocolate, White & Strawberry

With so many different choices and combinations, breakfast doesn’t have to look the same for every student!

🍎 So Many Choices at RCMS Today! 🍎

Take a look at just how many options our students have when they come through the lunch line at Russell County Middle School!

Today, students could choose from several different entrées, vegetables, fruits, grains, and milk options — giving them lots of ways to build a meal they’ll enjoy.

⭐ One lunch line = MANY choices and combinations!

And this isn’t just today! There are many options available each and every menu day. While the specific foods change based on the day’s menu, our goal is to give students variety and choices while still providing a complete, reimbursable school meal.

We love seeing our students find the combinations that work for them. 💚💙

Our goal is to provide as much variety and choice as we can while still meeting nutrition guidelines, managing costs, reducing food waste, and making sure we can serve meals efficiently to all of our students.

🍉 Fresh & Local in Russell County Schools! 🍉

This week, students in all Russell County Schools cafeterias enjoyed fresh, locally grown watermelon!🌱🍉

We are proud to bring fresh, local produce to our students while supporting the farmers right here in our community. ❤️

A big THANK YOU to Vaughn’s Green River Valley Farms for helping us put delicious, locally grown watermelon on our students’ trays this week!

☀️ What an incredible summer! ☀️

Thanks to our dedicated School Nutrition team, supportive families, and amazing community, Russell County Schools served 126,767 SUN Meals To-Go meals this summer! 🎉

Thank you for making this another outstanding summer of serving our students and community. We are grateful for the opportunity to help keep kids nourished, healthy, and ready to learn!

We can't wait to see students back in our cafeterias next week!
