Tonight’s Rusk FFA Back-to-School meeting was a huge success. We would like to thank Redline Party Rentals and the Rusk Fire Department for their support in making the first FFA meeting of the year a wonderful experience for our members. We had over 100 FFA members and parents at tonight’s meeting hearing about opportunities available for this school year. After the business meeting, those in attendance enjoyed our water volleyball games, double lane water slide, and chili dogs for dinner. We had 5 of our Area IX FFA officers also in attendance at tonight’s meeting to network with our members. We are looking forward to another wonderful and successful year as Texas’ #1 FFA chapter!💙💛❤️

️️⭐️Officer spotlight for our 2026-2027 Rusk FFA President, Brody Hicks️️⭐️

Brody is starting his Junior year, his 4th year as a member in the Rusk FFA, and is in the Agriculture Mechanics and Animal Science Programs of Study at RHS. In FFA, Brody participates in the Chapter Conducting and Quiz Leadership Development Events. As for Career Development Events, Brody participates in Land Judging and Wildlife. Brody’s SAE projects are Agricultural Mechanics and a Registered Heifer. Brody’s reason for running for chapter office this year is to leave behind a legacy and teach the younger FFA members. His personal FFA Goal this year is to help improve our FFA Chapter. After graduation, Brody plans to attend Texas A&M to pursue a degree in Agriculture. Brody notes his favorite FFA memory as the time he fell down the stairs at state convention in Houston, and his greatest FFA accomplishment as being a top 10 individual in the Area Land Judging contest. Brody’s favorite quote is by Ralph Nader “The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers.” Lastly, one piece of advice that Brody would like to share to other FFA members, is to not let people get under your skin and always do your best.

Outside of Rusk FFA, Makinzy is active in RHS Eagle Powerlifting, National Honors Society, Church, and her job at Cherokee Warehouse. After graduation, Makinzy plans to attend Texas A&M University to major in Agricultural Business. Makinzy’s favorite FFA memory is this past year’s week at the State FFA Convention. Makinzy notes her greatest achievement as advancing to the state powerlifting meet two years in a row. Makinzy’s favorite quote is “For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”Jeremiah‬ ‭29‬:‭11‬. Lastly, a piece of advice that Makinzy would like to give other FFA members is, FFA has many opportunities, don’t take any for granted. Take advantage of as many opportunities as you can, you never know what the outcome will be!

️️⭐️Officer spotlight for our 2026-2027 Rusk FFA and Piney Woods District Secretary, Omar Vences⭐️

Omar is starting his Junior year, his 4th year as a member of the Rusk FFA, and is in the Agriculture Mechanics Program of Study. In FFA, Omar has participated in Junior and Senior Chapter Conducting and FFA Broadcasting Leadership Development Events. As for Career Development Events, Omar participates in Wildlife and Poultry Judging. Omar’s Supervised Agriculture Experience projects are Market Goats and Agriculture Mechanics Projects. Omar’s reason for running for FFA office this year is to help members from our chapter and show them a role model that if you put your mind to it, you can be successful. Omar’s personal FFA Goal this year is to be able to impact as many FFA members as he can and to want newer members to get out of their comfort zone. Outside of Rusk FFA, Omar is active in RHS Athletics, and the Rusk High School Eagle Band. After High School, Omar plans to attend college. Omar’s favorite FFA memory is the 2026 Area Leadership Camp. Instead of being the one that learns, Omar was honored to help lead along with his other district officers and area officers. He saw many new people and being able to experience fun and happiness that past week was something he will never forget. Omar notes his greatest achievement as being elected as a Piney Wood’s District Officer. Omar’s favorite quote is “If you are ever feeling disheartened, that you are somehow not enough, set your heart ablaze.” -Rengoku. Lastly, a piece of advice Omar would like to give to other FFA members is, time goes by faster than you think, these memories you make in FFA will last a lifetime, so do what you want and make as many friends as you can.

️️⭐️Officer spotlight for our 2026-2027 Rusk FFA Treasurer, Keelee Wilcox️️⭐️

Keelee is starting her Junior year, her 4th year as a member of the Rusk FFA, and is in the Animal Science Program of Study. In FFA, Keelee has participated in Chapter Conducting, Quiz, and Skills Demonstration Leadership Development Events. As for Career Development Events, Keelee participates in Livestock Judging and Land Judging. Keelee’s Supervised Agriculture Experience projects are Commercial Heifers, Breeding Heifers, Breeder Poultry, Market Poultry, and working at the Tri-County Livestock Market. Keelee’s reason for running for chapter office this year is she wants to be part of the impact FFA makes. FFA has taught her leadership, responsibility, and how to work hard for the things you earn. Keelee wants to show every person that no matter how many things go wrong, you don’t give up, you keep pushing through and keep working. Keelee’s personal FFA Goal this year is to learn more about herself so she can better understand where she wants to go in life and help others discover the path that best fits their goals and aspirations. Keelee is active in the Cloverleaf 4H Club and Gallatin Church of Christ. After graduation, Keelee plans to attend college to earn a degree in Agriculture. Keelee’s favorite FFA memory is selling T-shirts at State Convention. It helped her make new friends, connect with the members around her, and make memories that will last a lifetime.Keelee notes her greatest achievement as getting first place in class at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Keelee’s favorite quote is “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.” ‭‭Micah‬ ‭7‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV‬ Lastly, a piece of advice that Keelee would like to give other FFA members is FFA isn’t just about long nights studying, losing contests, and getting lectured on what not to do on your Scantron. It’s so much more, so don’t give up on the hard stuff because the best moments are just around the corner and are worth every bump you took to get there.
