The Rumson Country Day School

The Rumson Country Day School Truly Great Education Begins at RCDS! Always encouraged to try new experiences, RCDS students receive tremendous support from their teachers and classmates.

Academic excellence, the emphasis on critical life skills, character, and community, form the foundation for truly great, N-8 independent education at The Rumson Country Day School. Guided by a mission and environment that embraces both its history and its future, The Rumson Country Day School is a community that specializes in educating children from nursery through eighth grade. The school has a

caring environment where passion for learning abounds and strong connections form between students and faculty. As advisors and coaches, our adults inspire intellectual curiosity, accountability and compassion for others. At this special time in a child’s development, we believe that placing your child in a family environment dedicated to recognizing strengths, nurturing skills and communicating with confidence is the greatest gift you can give. Strong academics, athletics, arts and technology are foundational to the program, giving students confidence and the ability to use their considerable intellect and drive for the greater good. Kind, Honest, Responsible, Respectful are four qualities of character that serve as essential cornerstones of the RCDS experience. These character traits combined with performance characteristics such as resilience, teamwork and creativity are reinforced throughout campus life to create a well-balanced learning environment. Above all, we want our students to view RCDS as a second home.

Learning doesn’t stop for summer, and our teachers are learners, too! RCDS faculty have been busy gathering inspiration to bring back to students in just a few short weeks. Across grade levels, many teachers have taken advantage of rich online professional development, diving deeper into writing, math, classroom discussion, and more. Some more examples from this summer’s professional development include….

🖼️ Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Petersen honed their stained-glass skills with a local artist in preparation for using the new glass kiln in our renovated art studios.
👩🏻‍🏫Mrs. Fallon, Ms. Feldman, and Mrs. Parker traveled to Chicago to explore entrepreneurship education.
🌳 Ms. Prendergast and Mrs. Ahmadi headed to Tennessee’s Forest School Teacher Institute to discover new ways to integrate purposeful outdoor learning into Grade 4.

Whether learning from home or farther afield, our faculty are bringing new ideas and energy to the year ahead!

It all began here! We are incredibly proud that the student speakers at RFH’s graduation ceremony were both RCDS alumni: Valedictorian Gus Lyle ’22 and Class President Finn Carlston ’22. Pictured here speaking at the podium during their 8th Grade Athletics Ceremony, Gus and Finn were already demonstrating the confidence, leadership, and communication skills that would later distinguish them on the graduation stage and exemplify key attributes of the RCDS Portrait of a Graduate: An Adept Communicator who writes skillfully, speaks confidently, listens actively, and conveys complex ideas with clarity and precision.

Knowing our Head of School, Mr. Smith, is a lifelong Celtics fan, some students decided to celebrate the New York Knicks’ championship parade by sending him a surprise delivery of blue and orange bagels today. Reports indicate the bagels were received. Whether they were enjoyed remains under investigation. 😂 Congratulations to the Knicks and their fans! And hats off to our students for elite-level trolling, creativity, and school spirit!
