Words.
You see them, you hear them, if you read Braille you can touch them, and it’s even possible to taste them, a phenomenon called synesthesia.
Chances are you have favorite books, quotes, taglines, song lyrics, and sayings.
Chances are you’ve judged someone or some thing, brand, or business by they way in which they communicate(d).
And chances are also high that you’ve made some form of decision (or two, or a thousand!) based on how words have motivated and moved you.
We take action based solely on words ALL THE TIME.
Why? Words have the ability to make you FEEL and stimulate emotional response. Words are felt in far greater depth and measure than by any other sense. Words have their own vibration and the ability to radiate the energy and intention of the person(s) who composed them.
Yes, you can quite literally imbue energy and intention into words and images. Authors and artists do this all the time, though you may not recognize it as such. They actively pour a piece of themselves into that which they create.
But what does this have to do with building a business or brand that resonates with customers and sells itself?
A business can live or die based on how it “speaks” to and with its customers. (Just think about how many companies have had to hire PR firms to “clean up” after ill-phrased words, poorly crafted messages and campaigns, or someone’s unguarded moments…)
In addition to clear and compelling messaging, visuals, images, and design elements should add to the message and support the intended action.
So words and images play a monumental role in business. With that said, not everyone is or wants to be a wordsmith or spend hours on Canva or Illustrator. And truth be told, if that isn’t your cup of tea or your time is best spent elsewhere, by all means, hire someone whose zone of genius it is.
