Dear neighbors and friends of Got Lunch Rumney!
Hard to believe that it’s been almost 10 years since a group of moms (now mostly grandmothers) got together to address the issue of hunger in our beautiful little community. At that time, we were aware that many of our community kids suffered nutritional risk during the summer months when federal food programs available through Russell Elementary were not available.
A lot has changed since then including the onset of a global pandemic but also (the good news!) the expansion of the Rumney Rangers summer camps that also provided meals for our community kids.
Last summer (2022) we did not have any of our kids enrolled in GLR as those that had previously depended on us were being served through the RR. We did provide some vouchers for several families to obtain dairy products and fresh vegetables but we did not have a need to deliver the weekly meals that we had in previous years.
So here we are today- looking at the summer of 2022 and the one thing that really impacts us is the ages of our committee members. We are all getting on in years now, mostly retired, traveling, and spending more time with our various grandkids spread throughout the country.
Our #1 committee member, the one that managed the actual logistics of ordering food, packaging, coordinating volunteers, etc., has determined it is now time for moving on from this commitment.
So, in light of this we see 2 options for how to move forward:
#1- if another member or few members of the community would like to take over, we seasoned committee members would provide guidance on how we coordinated and implemented the program or
#2- in light of the other programs that have become available (such as Rumney Rangers) we would offer vouchers only (which we distribute through the mail) to those that apply for need-based help.
So, if any of you out there are reading this and would like to take over – please do message GLR vis FB. Please know that it does require commitment. It works best if there are a few people- as there needs to be some basic meal planning, food procurement, planning the delivery routes, volunteer recruitment (to pack and deliver meals- we recommend 2 persons per delivery vehicle), and then some basic administrative and financial tasks. I would recommend you see if you can get 3-4 people together to form a committee then we can work with that group to share our knowledge and experience and assist with the first year.
Looking forward to hearing from some of you- and if not- then we will proceed with the plan to use vouchers this year to supplement nutritional purchases and take it from there.
We really appreciate all the efforts made by members of this community to make this program a success over the last almost decade. Thanks for all that so many of you do to keep this community such a great place to live!
🙂

Greetings GLR Friends and Neighbors!
Just wanted to send a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who contributed to another successful GLR summer!! We really appreciate those of you who packed and delivered meals. Also want to thank Longview Farm, The Rumney Village Store and Hannaford Supermarket for their generosity; and the Rumney Volunteer Fire Department for the excellent packing/storing accommodations. As the saying goes, it takes a village, and in Rumney, we sure have an awesome one!

Here's to GLR. What a wonderful community we live in.

We spent months photographing dozens of families across the country to understand what food insecurity looks like today.

Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸 to GLR friends and neighbors!
GLR wants to give a big Thank You to our local SAU as they provided meals during these unprecedented times to all area kids who wanted them. This fabulous program ended this week so GLR will be starting our regular service on Monday 7/6, for anyone who has registered for the program.

We’d also like to send a big Thank You to our own HANNAFORD of Plymouth, as they have donated the bread and fruit for our first week of lunches. We truly appreciate this generous gift! Additional Thank You to Lisa Ford, from the UNH Cooperative Extension, as she is providing healthy recipes which we will include in each weeks lunch delivery.

We're very excited about starting our 7th summer with this awesome nutritional program! Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support!

Greetings, Rumney neighbors,
Got Lunch! Rumney has been participating with our local SAU to provide lunches for all of our community kids during this time of Covid. However, this program is about to end, so it's now time to register for the GLR summer lunch program to ensure lunches continue after Friday 6/26.
Registration forms can be found at the Russell Elementary School website (under announcements). The deadline is June 18th, so please register now.
Feel free to message us here, if any question.
Looking forward to our 7th summer!

As the SAU48 Nutrition Plan comes to a close on June 30, the Got Lunch! Rumney program will begin its seventh year of providing groceries to families to help bridge the nutritional gap over the summer break, when meals are not being provided by the school.

HELP WANTED: Got Lunch! Rumney!

Dear GLR supporters,

In 2013, a group of Rumney residents met to develop a summer-lunch program for the many kids in our community, who were at risk for hunger during the vacation months. This summer, we’ll be starting our 7th year of this very successful program. We are so grateful for the support our community has provided; through volunteer efforts (buying, packing, delivering), and through generous cash donations, 100% of which go directly to food purchases. But now, WE NEED HELP again.
We are seeking 1 or 2 folks who can join our volunteer board, with a commitment of ~8 hours per year, to keep this critical program going. If you are wiling and able, GLR would love to hear from you. Please send a message via this page so we can discuss more. Looking forward to hearing from you- and, you do not need to live in Rumney to lend your support. 😊

Greetings GLR Friends! As many of you know, from the various solicitations you get every Thanksgiving season, that November is Giving Month. If you would like to make a financial contribution to GLR, we sure would welcome it! Donations can be sent to Got Lunch! Rumney, 1443 Quincy Rd, Rumney, NH 03266.
And, if you would like to do even more.....GLR is looking for a few volunteers to join our board to help us keep this vital program running. Commitment is minimal but we sure could use some help!
From all of us at GLR- Happy Thanksgiving and Thank You for all the ongoing support you provide!

Greetings GLR supporters, Wow! Another great year of supporting our Rumney kids through the provision of lunches during the non-school (and non-Rumney Ranger summer camp) season. We couldn't do this without you, our volunteers, and our financial contributors. Thanks to you all!

We are looking for a few new members to assist our volunteer board in the administering of this critical program. The original board has been at this for 7 years now, and a few of our members are thinking of retiring.
If this is something of interest to you, please message us via this FB page, and we will message you back to discuss in more detail. Appreciate anyone who might be willing to give a few hours each summer (and literally, only a few hours). We prefer not to have any children involved, so as to protect the privacy of our program recipients. Thanks so much for considering and thanks so much for what you are already doing!
