Cell Phones at MVHS

As we get ready to welcome students in the next couple of weeks, I want to take a moment and remind everyone about the new cell phone/bluetooth device rule that will be implemented in the 26-27 school year. The State of Maine passed a law last spring banning cell phones/bluetooth devices at all schools from "bell to bell". What does this mean at MVHS?

Phones/Bluetooth Devices (this includes smart watches and headphones) cannot be on a student's person starting at 8:00 am.

Student's must keep their phone/devices in their locker or in secure storage spaces that we have created in the main office.

Students may request a school issued combination lock for their locker. Students cannot use their own locks.

If a student is seen with their phone, it will be confiscated and taken to the main office and placed in secure storage for the remainder of the school day.

Student's can use their phones/devices starting at 2:15 pm.

If students are leaving early for an extra-curricular activity they can take their phone at that designated time.

If an upperclassmen has privileges and is allowed to leave campus during the day, they can use their phone/device but must secure it when they come back on campus.

We understand that this is a significant change to our routine and we promise to work with your students during this transition. We believe our students have handled themselves relatively well with cell phones over the last 4 years but this change ultimately will allow our students to focus even more energy on their education during school hours. As Falcons we pride ourselves on being adaptable and doing the right thing. This situation is no different. We thank you for your support and please email ([email protected]) or call me (364-4547) with any questions.

-Mr. Danylik
