Biblical requirements for a pastor (also called an elder or overseer) center on character, competence in teaching, family life, and reputation with outsiders, as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, emphasizing godliness, self-control, hospitality, sound doctrine, good family management, and a blameless public image, not being a recent convert, and avoiding greed or drunkenness. An older married man with believing children are some of the requirements given in the scriptures. It is NOT synonymous with today's "preachers" which is not an office found in the scriptures.

1 Timothy 3

1 This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

And

Titus 1:5-9

5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. 6 An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. 7 Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8 Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

You might find this quite interesting.
I know I do.

Most scholars believe that the earliest written book of the Bible is either Genesis or Job. Moses is thought to have written Genesis and possibly Job, both around 1400 BC. The book of Revelation is the newest book, and it was completed around AD 90.

And YET, what was written in 1400 BC shows a complete knowledge of what would take place 1400+ years later!

Let me give an example of what I am talking about.

Jesus said, 54 Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. 55 Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. 56 Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
57 “You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59 At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
Note that he said Abraham “saw” what would happen more than 1400 years later!! Only, an all knowing God, could have showed Abraham what would take place 1400+ years later with his offspring, Jesus.

God offered up His ONLY begotten son, Jesus, on the Very same mountain that Abraham was told to offer up His only son, some 1400+ years earlier!

Then: Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love – Isaac – and go to the region of -----“Moriah”------. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on----- a mountain------ I will show you.” Genesis 22:2
God had Abraham offer up son Isaac on the VERY MOUNTAIN that God would offer up HIS only begotten son, for the sins of the world.

This is the VERY same place where, MANY, MANY years later, that the Death angel was stopped, from destroying the children of God. It is ALSO the same location where the Temple was built. Mount Moriah, was, and IS, Jerusalem.

2 Chronicles 3:1
(Solomon Builds the Temple on Mount Moriah!)
3 Then Solomon began to build the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David. It was on the threshing floor of Araunah[a] the Jebusite, the place provided by David.

Note that the very Mountain where Abraham offered up Isaac and also where the DEATH angel quit his killing spree, WAS where Jesus gave his life for our sins. Jesus was the Lamb that God supplied in place of Abrahams’ son. (what was in the thicket, was a Ram and not the Lamb that God would later give, as Jesus, was the "Lamb" of God sacrificed for the sins of the the nations.

2 Samuel 24:15-17
New International Version
15 So the Lord sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousands of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. 16 When the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the Lord relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was afflicting the people, “Enough! Withdraw your hand.” The angel of the Lord was then at -------"the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

Abraham not ONLY saw this day, but Abraham and God shared the same SON. Abraham got to see the fulfillment of the promise of God that through Abraham’s seed ALL the nations of the world would be BLESSED.

"Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.” -- Jesus Christ

Gen: 22:7 Then Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” “Here I am, my son,” he replied. “The fire and the wood are here,” said Isaac, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham answered, “God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two walked on together. Gen 22:14 And Abraham called that place "The LORD Will Provide". So to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."

Proverbs 6: 16-19
There are six things that the LORD ----hates,
Seven that are an -----abomination to Him:
1. Haughty eyes,
2. a lying tongue,
And
3. hands that shed innocent blood,
4. A heart that devises wicked plans,
5. Feet that run rapidly to evil,
6. A false witness who declares lies,
And
7. one who spreads strife among brothers.
A major false doctrine being spread by Satan is that we don't have to worry about sinning any more if we are saved. But that is a teaching of Satan and NOT a teaching of God.
Hebrews 10:26-31
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
If we sin we NEED to willfully acknowledge our sins and repent, turn about and seek His forgivenes, or face the fireyindignation, which shall devour God's adversaries. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

If the bible is God's word, for us, then why don't we try to do what it tells us to do?
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
If this is true, then why are we not doing what it tells us to do?
And
Why do we add to it, with our own carnal desires, which are the doctrines of man?
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Matthew 15:9
So,
15 Make every effort to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman who "accurately" handles the word of truth.
II Timothy 2:15
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Matthew 7:22-24

God's word is not limited to just a verse or two. We need to listen to the whole counsel of God. That is the only way we will know God's deffinition and meaning of words and not man's misinterpretations. Saying "I Beleive" is not how God interprets belief!!!

This morning a passage in the Bible came to my mind. It was about some "little children" sassing Elisha saying, "Go up, you baldhead" The Greek septuegent of this passage uses the very same word that is used in Mathew 9:14 where he says suffer not the "little chidlren" to come unto me, for such is the kingdom of heaven.

Now this is quite scary, when you think about it. God called two she bears to come and maul 42 "little children" for ridiculing Elisha calling him a "baldhead" If God is willing to punish 42 LITTLE children for doing this, then how do you think God feels about us GROWN UPS who do the same thing to others?

Apparently God does NOT like it when this happens, He is obviously displeased with such actions. Could it be that God is a LOT more strict than most of us think? Could it be that, just maybe, we should rethink our actions, and the things we say? Could it be that, just maybe, we should be a little more strict in how we raise our children, if we want them to be pleasing to God?

Maybe we should RETHINK our behavior. Especially, when it comes to how we talk about, or to, our politicians, our leaders, our neighbors, our friends, our family, or, anyone else, for that matter.
Here are the two passages I mentioned above.

II Kings 2: 23 Now he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the road, some young boys came out from the city and ridiculed him and said to him, “Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead!” 24 When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty-two of the boys.

Mathew 9:13 ff. Then the little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them. And the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them! For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15And after He had placed His hands on them, He went on from there.…
