🍂 Registration is now open for the first Swenson Studios art session of the 2026–2027 school year! 🍂

This six-week session is all about drawing in charcoal—one of the most expressive and foundational drawing media. Students will learn to see like artists as they explore light, shadow, value, texture, and form while creating beautiful, frame-worthy artwork. Whether your child is just beginning or already loves to draw, my small class sizes allow me to meet each student where they are and help them grow.

Designed for youth ages 7–15, classes meet once a week for 75 minutes in my home studio, where students enjoy artist-grade materials, individualized instruction, and a welcoming, creative environment.

I’m a Pennsylvania-certified art teacher with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Art Education and 20 years of teaching experience, and I love helping young artists discover both new skills and confidence in their creativity.

✨ Classes begin the week of September 2, and space is limited!

Painting Camp wrapped up today, and I’m so impressed with what these students accomplished in just eight hours!

We kicked off camp with a small abstract painting designed to build brush control, practice color mixing, and explore a variety of acrylic painting techniques. Students were then asked to bring in a photo they wanted to paint for our main project.

I was surprised when every single student arrived with a pet portrait! At first I worried all of the paintings would end up looking too similar, but each student approached the project with their own style and personality. The results couldn’t have been more different—or more successful!

On Day 2, students drew their compositions, prepared their canvases with a colored ground, and continued working on their mini paintings. Day 3 was all about transferring their drawings to canvas and beginning the painting process. By the end of day 4, many students had already completed their pet portraits and were able to add paint pen details and finishing touches to their abstract mini paintings.

I’m so proud of the focus, creativity, and perseverance these young artists showed this week. They should be incredibly proud of what they created in such a short amount of time! 🎨🐾❤️

We have TWO camps remaining this summer! Come draw with us next week and then craft with us the week after that!

To transform decaying earth into something new… creating forms that give it new life… what an amazingly transcendent act that is! These past two weeks I’ve participated in an art educator workshop in ceramics at Kutztown University. We had a marvelous time spending over 50 hours immersed in clay: building with it, glazing it, and firing it.
Come create with me next week at Swenson Studios Ceramics Camp for makers ages 6-15. We will be making functioning wall clocks! We still have a few spots remaining!

This week I’m at Kutztown University taking a ceramics workshop to keep my teaching certification current and continue growing as an artist and educator. Lifelong learning is one of my favorite parts of teaching!

Over the past few days, I’ve been creating these reductive sculptures. They began as simple clay explorations and gradually evolved into forms that remind me of the weathered driftwood I encountered on a trip to Georgia last year. It’s always fascinating to see where the creative process leads.

As soon as this workshop wraps up, I’ll be back in the studio teaching my Summer Ceramics Camp—and I’d love to share some of this excitement with your young artist! Students will learn hand-building techniques, experiment with texture and form, and create unique ceramic projects in a small-group setting.

Dates: June 29, 30 and July 1, 6
Cost: $122
