Happy Spring Equinox!

Today we’re making seed bombs to plant once the weather stays warm. Seasonal rhythms help children place themselves within the world and gives a sense of the passing of time, which is very abstract for young children

As we started the process of cutting the paper into tiny pieces, we talked about how the smaller pieces absorb water better. When we pressed the water through the strainer, we realized how much hand strength was needed. As we mixed the seeds in, we talked about how we harvested them from our flowers last year, how they are 3 generations old, and how we will harvest them again at the end of this growing season

These seasonal rhythms don’t just provide a place in time, they provide the opportunity to reflect, appreciate, and nurture the world around us

While I was watching her play, I noticed she kept pressing the bucket into the sand and lifting it up, looking to see what was happening. She realized the harder she pressed the bucket, the better the imprint was.

I could have asked what she was doing or tell her the bucket goes the other way to make a sandcastle (our reason for coming to the sandbox) but instead I just…watched. I enjoyed watching her wonder and awe, all while learning about cause and effect without a single word from me
