When I work with students, I explain that their TOPIC will likely be chosen by other applicants. Many students will write about sports, leadership experiences, or life challenges. So... the way to stand out is not by trying to come up with a unique topic, it's by writing about an authentic topic in a unique, meaningful way. This is how to stand out to admissions officers!

Vocabulary has become an increasingly important skill for the SAT! But is it really possible/ worthwhile to study countless SAT vocabulary words with the hope of one of them ~maybe~ showing up on your test?

When I tutor students for the SAT, I teach them strategies for how to determine which word to choose on the test... even if they don't know any of the words in the answer choices!

At the end of the month, I will officially graduate with my Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum... my second degree from Michigan State University.

As an English teacher, I am a fierce advocate for independent choice reading for students of all ages!

As an SAT tutor, I know that reading regularly is the #1 way to authentically build vocabulary and reading stamina-- both of which are KEY skills for the SAT!

Let's be honest... no one likes to learn grammar!

However, grammatical skills are en entire portion of the Digital SAT! When I work with students, I help them connect basic concepts (such as the components of a complete sentence) to more complicated rules (like where to place a comma).

Sometimes, all a student needs is a reminder of grammatical concepts they may have learned years ago!

I've been helping students with their application essays for a long time. Watching my students get accepted into their dream programs is one of my greatest joys!
