Tonight we came together across the entire school district to celebrate and honor all of the fabulous volunteers who make PTA what it is! We couldn’t do this work without you all. THANK YOU! Another wonderful Founder’s Day is in the books. 💕💕💕

A special shout out to Claudine G who won the Keller PTA Above and Beyond the Call of Duty award for her relentless work on the lunchtime Composting Program she brought to Keller. 🙌
She was nominated by many fellow PTA members.

The composting program wouldn’t have happened without her steadfast dedication to the Keller community and to the planet! 🫶🌎

Congratulations, Claudine! Thanks to all who could attend tonight’s dinner, and an extra special Husky High Five to ALL of our PTA volunteers. 🥳

[National PTA Multicultural Calendar Post]

February officially became Black History Month in 1976 when U.S. President Gerald Ford extended the recognition to “honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.” Black History Month has been celebrated in the United States every February since.

Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.

Tu Bishvat begins at sundown on Wednesday, Jan. 24 and ends at sundown on Thursday, Jan. 25.

Tu Bishvat or the “birthday” of all fruit trees, is a minor festival. The name is Hebrew for the 15th of the Hebrew month of Shevat.
In modern times, Tu Bishvat continues to be an opportunity for planting trees — in Israel and elsewhere, wherever Jews live. Many American and European Jews observe Tu Bishvat by contributing money to the Jewish National Fund, an organization devoted to reforesting Israel.

Due to the expected weather of sleet and freezing rain, Royal Oak Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

We want to share a special message on behalf of the Keller PTA Green Schools Committee/ Parent Volunteer Claudine:

Come join Keller’s Compost Team! We are a small but mighty team of fun parents who help the kids sort their compostable items at lunch: cartons, trays, and food waste.

You get to be with the kids during lunch (11:20-1:30) which is so fun, and your own kiddo might even want to give you a midday hug, high five, or dirty look 🤣 (they ARE getting older!). We have openings in February. If you’d like to join me on January 31, I need a compost buddy that day, too.

You will be fully trained! You don’t need to know anything about compost. You can volunteer once a month or once a week. You DO need your district volunteer paperwork cleared for this school year. Volunteers are required to fill out the paperwork annually. You can check with the office if you’re unsure if you’ve done it. The main office can provide the paperwork, or you can print it at home by visiting the PTA website and looking under "PTA Info" then "forms."
https://www.helenkellerpta.net/pta-forms

It may take a couple weeks to get cleared FYI. Email me if you’re interested/have questions: [email protected]
Thanks for considering!

World Religion Day can be observed by taking the time to learn about other religions and to think about the things that your religion has in common with these other religions.

It’s a good day to attend an inter-faith service, to take the time to talk to someone of a different religion, or to introduce your children to different faiths.

We are looking for PTA members to attend! Please let me know by Sunday, 1/21 if you can make it to this fabulous event. 🤩

The Royal Oak PTA Council invites PTA members to attend the Founders' Day dinner, being held Monday, February 5th at 6pm at Club Venetian Banquet Center (Madison Heights).
At this event, we will celebrate the work of all the Royal Oak PTAs. It is a very meaningful social event that brings all of us together and unites us.

Cost: Tickets are $30, but the Keller PTA will cover half of the cost of dinner for our members, making it ONLY $15 per person!

There's a cash bar for drinks other than water, coffee, and lemonade.

To RSVP, please email Carie Ho**er ASAP: [email protected]

Each year on the third Monday of January we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and reflect on the work that still needs to be done for racial equality. This January 15, make the holiday more than just a day off and take time to reflect and take action on civil rights issues across the globe

Thanks to the efforts of a humble Baptist preacher, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the law is bound to uphold equal rights for all people across the country regardless of race, color, or creed.

Even though the New Year celebrations in most countries occur on January 1st on the Gregorian calendar, Orthodox or Old New Year is still celebrated by Orthodox churches in the U.S and around the world.

Orthodox New Year celebrations often include traditional buffets and dancing. People also attend liturgies, blessings, and other religious ceremonies on this day.
