A professional teaching studio dedicated to developing the next generation of professional musicians. The Studio
The Masters of Music Learning Studio opened in November of 2005 to immediate success and recognition from the local music education community. The studio was created to provide a learning level and environment rivaling the finest music conservatories in the country. As such, parents an
d professionals alike could have confidence in the superior quality of the lessons and instruction provided to students. The mission statement above provides a glimpse into the studio's teaching philosophies, and dedication to the art of music and commitment to students. We provide advanced training while staying rooted in solid fundamentals, and incorporate many disciplines into our teaching, including goal setting, time management, salesmanship, problem solving, team building, communication advancement, public performance and a host of other skills necessary to succeed in every vocation. The facility offers lessons on all instruments as well as vocal training, and is the only music-teaching studio endorsed by the Detroit Federation of Musicians. The Teachers
The teachers at The Masters of Music are the top professionals in the music industry and have collectively performed on thousands of recordings. Included are major symphony orchestras, The Detroit and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras and on hundreds of Grammy Award winning records and soundtracks, including Standing In The Shadows of Motown, and hundreds of the original Motown recordings. The instructors are versed in orchestral music, opera, chamber music, Broadway, ragtime, traditional jazz (Dixieland), big band, swing, bebop, country, pop, gospel, blues, funk, rhythm and blues, hip hop, rap, and literally all genres of music. They also teach music theory, composition, arranging, song writing and studio engineering. The majority of Detroit’s most successful bandleaders are among the teachers at the studio, and many of them are specifically requested by touring performers like Stevie Wonder, Josh Grobin, Barry Manilow, and more. The teachers have performed at major music festivals and venues throughout the world, and many of our instructors teach at The University of Michigan, Michigan State, Wayne State, Oakland and Ohio State Universities. Several of the teachers are experienced adjudicators, including MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival as well as for university auditions and juries. The Students
As vital as it is to have teachers who have accomplished their personal musical goals, it is just as important to have teachers who are superior educators. A short list of their students’ accomplishments include tours and recordings with legendary cellist YoYo Ma, members of the Michigan Opera Theatre, members of major symphony orchestras, the horn section for Bob Seger, Wynton Marsalis & The Lincoln Center Orchestra, touring performers with entertainers such as Paul Anka, writing and recording with bands that include the Maynard Fergusen Band, touring with Miles Davis, principal chair theatre performers including the Fox & Fisher Theatres, composers and arrangers for Hollywood films, and hundreds of professional musicians across the country. Equally as important, their students have received hundreds of scholarships to universities, Juliard, New England Conservatory of Music, Berklee College of Music, N.Y.U., The University of Michigan, U.S.C., and dozens more.
