Atelier School of Art is committed to helping people pursue their natural inclination to create. Youth and adult classes and workshops available.

We provide the premier educational studio experience in Southeast Michigan. Artists of all experience levels are encouraged to pursue their natural inclination to learn and create in a fun and friendly environment.

Three paintings finished means one thing: a triple gong ceremony! 🔔🎨

Doug, Denise, and Lesley each completed such wonderful pieces, and we are so proud of them. What makes this trio especially exciting is how clearly their individual styles and artistic voices shine through.

Doug brought a meaningful landscape of his son fishing to life with the expressive color palette he loves. Denise and Lesley both used palette knives and worked from their own reference photos, yet took their paintings in completely different directions. Each piece feels personal, realistic, and beautifully artistic.

Congratulations, Doug, Denise, and Lesley—truly incredible work!

We’re heading back outdoors! 🌿 Join us for our next Atelier Plein Air outing at Belle Isle on Saturday, September 19th from 10 AM–1 PM, hosted by Atelier instructor Tim Smith.

Spend the morning painting, exploring, and creating alongside fellow Atelier artists in one of Detroit’s most beautiful settings. A $5 deposit will reserve your spot, and our team will reach out after you register to collect it.

Last week, we got to celebrate a very special member of our Atelier family as Olivia gets ready to begin an exciting new chapter at CCS! 🤍

The Bradleys have been such a special part of Atelier over the years, and it’s hard to put into words just how much we’ve loved having them as part of our community. Olivia has been creating with us for several years, and watching the growth in her paintings, her confidence, and her voice as an artist has been such a wonderful thing to witness.

Beyond her incredible talent, we’ll miss the kindness, warmth, and positivity that Olivia and the entire Bradley family have brought into the studio week after week. They have truly left their mark on our Atelier community.

Olivia, we are so proud of you and so excited for everything ahead. We know there is so much greatness coming your way, and we can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes you. CCS is lucky to have you, and you’ll always have a home here at Atelier! ✨

A little look back at Paint Your Partner! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who joined us this past Friday! We always have so much fun hosting these evenings and love seeing everyone’s personalities come through in their paintings — especially the final reveals at the end!

We had to show off Enzo’s latest finished piece from our Teen Studio class! ✏️

The amount of detail in this drawing is incredible — from the textures and shading to all of the tiny elements throughout the piece. Enzo put so much work into this one, and it absolutely shows.

A very special painting and a very special Atelier moment! 🐾❤️
A few months ago, our studio coordinator, Nora, asked Olivia if she would take on her very first commission—a painting of her friend and her sweet pup. Ever since, we’ve all had so much fun watching it come to life in the studio!

Olivia poured so much care into every part of this piece. She welcomed feedback, made thoughtful changes along the way, and somehow noticed little details in the reference photos that even Nora had missed. Most of all, she captured so much warmth and personality in the final painting, and we think that’s what makes it so special.

Getting to watch our students grow, challenge themselves, and take on opportunities like this is exactly what we love about our Atelier community.

Congratulations on your first commission, Olivia! We have a feeling there will be many, many more to come. We are SO proud of you! 👏

Another beautiful painting complete! 🧡🌼🎨

Bonnie just put the finishing touches on this gorgeous floral painting in Tim’s Tuesday afternoon Painting class, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

Bonnie is incredibly committed to her work, and you would never guess that this is only around her sixth oil painting—she already paints like a master! It has been so much fun watching her skills and confidence continue to grow with each piece.

Congratulations, Bonnie! We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to watch your next gardening painting come to life.

Tomorrow is the final day to experience the Michigan Fine Arts Competition Exhibition at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center!

Belle Isle gave us plenty to paint this weekend. 🎨🌿

Tim Smith led a small (but mighty!) group of painters through one of our favorite places to paint outdoors. With beautiful gardens, historic architecture, wooded paths, and waterfront views, Belle Isle is one of those places where every turn offers a new painting.

We’ll definitely be heading back before the weather gets cold.
