Our Sparrows have spent the week exploring the outdoors and part of our unit has focused on honey 🐝 bees. We are so blessed to have Aron & Ashley Holcomb in our community! They came out and gave our littles a hands on learning experience & tasty treat 🍯 They’re even sending our Sparrows home with flower seeds 🌸 to help take care of the bees!

Beyond the obvious benefit of creativity and imagination, engagement in the arts contributes a child’s learning in so many ways!

Art activities build neural connections as senses are engaged, strengthen fine motor skills including those necessary for writing, provides an outlet for personal expression, allows for problem solving, and is just plain FUN.

Week of the Young Child-Work Together Wednesday

Today our Sparrows worked together to complete the Great Easter Rescue!

The children were tasked with rescuing Easter eggs, bunnies and carrots from the tape traps and then transporting them to the opposite side of the classroom to the designated bins.

In order to successfully complete the assignment, the children had to work together to take turns and to problem solve their way around the tape traps. Additionally, children strengthened their fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, balance, gross motor skills, and more!

Provider bonus: this activity led to thirty minutes of engaging, cooperative, and giggly play! 🙌🏻

🧑🏼‍🍳 Week of the Young Child — Tasty Tuesday 🧑🏼‍🍳

Today our Sparrows got busy in the kitchen! It’s Tasty Tuesday and cooking with young children has so many benefits.

Including your child in meal preparation and cooking encourages fine motor skills and strength, builds language and literacy skills through reading recipes and food labels, strengthens math skills through measurement, and promotes social skill building through following directions, engaging in conversation and more.

Additionally, a shameless plug for family style dining in early childhood settings. Family style dining creates less food waste, strengthens self help skills, promotes positive social development, cultivates a child’s much needed sense of control over their nutrition, empowers children to listen to their natural hunger cues, encourages children to branch out and try new foods, and so much more. Don’t be scared of mess! Allowing children more opportunities actually lessens messiness!

Stop underestimating the power of learning in the kitchen and strive to include your little ones more in day to day cooking activities 🙌🏻

This week is NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child. Today was Music Monday. It’s also Easter week here and our Sparrows celebrated by creating Easter Egg Music Shakers & dancing it out. We followed it up with a marathon of musical chairs. Check back in each day this week as we follow along with providers across the state celebrating our youngest learners and the programs that serve them!
