The student Opportunity Act (or whatever the name of the bill was in the house) passed unanimously about half an hour ago. Goes to conference committee and then the house and the Senate vote on the final version but it looks like a slam dunk veto-proof thing. Congratulations to everyone they worked on this. It's been a long haul.

Charter Schools Are Not Public Schools Technically, any charter school can call itself a public school. Heck, any private or parochial school can call itself a public school if it's so inclined. But while modern charter schools are financed by public tax dollars, they are not truly public schools.

Hi gang. Wednesday is the swearing in of new legislators and the beginning of a new session on Beacon Hill. (also no school that day) I was thinking it might be a good time to remind the legislators that they NEED to pass a bill for adequate school funding. Have the entrances to the statehouse covered. I think BEJA will be there. Maybe MEJA too. Of course having the most people possible would make a bigger impression. I'm trying to find out what time would be a good time to be there. If anyone knows, that would be really helpful. If you're interested I'll be back with more information. Thanks. John
