My graduate students are crowdsourcing the Omeka S site for the Apartheid Heritage(s) digital book project and soliciting assistance from the public as part of their effort to build-in community co-creation and co-curation into the archive-making process. Please help them by including any memories, stories, or other photographs you might have that could help them add to the collection (with your permission, of course!). This is our first attempt at crowdsourcing the history of objects related to South Africa's history under apartheid and its anti-apartheid activism. The objects that make up this collection are an attempt to tell the long history of a place, Soweto, through material culture objects. Any and all contributions will be cited (if you'll allow us that privilege, to acknowledge your contributions to our knowledge-making work together). Please send us an email with questions, concerns, or if you'd like to share any information with us: [email protected]. Savita, Cassie, and Alanna (and Angel) thank you for your time, care, and attention!

Hello! Recognize this image? Did you happen to go on this bus tour near Credo Mutwa 'back in the day?' I am a graduate student at Brandeis University (here in Boston, MA) working on the Apartheid Heritage(s) Project and I was wondering if anyone remembers going on these tours of Soweto during the early 1970s? If so, would you like to talk to me about it? I'd love to hear from you! Please drop me a message here or feel free to email me at [email protected]. We'd so appreciate learning from you!
