Dear Literacy Education Colleagues,
We are heartbroken to share the incredibly sad news that Dr. Evelyn-Ford Connors passed away Tuesday evening from cancer. This is a devastating shock to all of us.
As many of you know, Evelyn was part of the Literacy Education program for many years and directed that program, including Reading Education and the Reading and Writing Clinic (now the Literacy Collaborative). Many of us spent time with her in the Clinic as she guided tutoring sessions and met with students, teachers, and families. She spent countless Saturdays and summer days at BU Wheelock making sure that students developed the skills they needed for teaching and that K-12 students also developed their literacy practices. Through this work, she helped develop and maintain a vibrant community of which we are all a part. Evelyn was always available to listen and to share advice with others, whether they were students or faculty. Although Evelyn retired a couple of years ago, she continued to teach an online writing course for our program. It is heartbreaking that she has left so early and so unexpectedly, and it is devastating to be sharing such news with you.
We also want to share information with you about funeral services for Evelyn:

With great sadness,
