📚 Bringing a powerful learning experience home to Person County

Hogan Carringer, an English teacher at PECIL and a 15-year educator with Person County Schools, recently shared his experience traveling to Poland this summer with the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust during a presentation at Long Memorial Church.

During his July trip, Carringer visited Krakow and Warsaw, as well as the sites of Auschwitz, Treblinka, and Majdanek. He shared reflections from his travels, how the experience impacted him personally and as an educator, and how it has shaped his approach to teaching students about the Holocaust.

Carringer also serves as a volunteer Person County Coordinator for the NC Council on the Holocaust alongside Allison Dacus, PHS Student Transition Coordinator. Together, they help connect English and Social Studies teachers in grades 6–12 with Holocaust education resources, speakers, lesson-planning materials, and professional development opportunities.

Their work supports educators as they teach the history of the Holocaust while helping students develop a deeper understanding of genocide, injustice, and the importance of learning from history.
We’re proud to have PCS educators who seek out meaningful learning experiences and bring that knowledge back to benefit our students, colleagues, and community. 💙

Our students are making history!
