PCC Alumni Spotlight: Rosie Howle, Class of 2003!
From an Associate in Science in Accounting at Piedmont Community College to a career spanning nearly two decades in finance, auditing, payroll, grant administration, and financial analysis, Rosie Howle is a wonderful example of where determination and education can lead.
Today, Rosie serves as a Financial Management Analyst 2 with Duke University School of Nursing, where she helps faculty and leadership navigate complex financial data, manage budgets, and make sound financial decisions.
But her journey didn’t stop there. Through education benefits earned during her career, Rosie went on to complete both her bachelor’s degree and MBA. She has also followed her entrepreneurial spirit by launching two small businesses: The Wise Howle Financial Solutions, providing financial education and coaching, and Chunky Creations by Rosie, specializing in handcrafted home décor and gifts.
One of Rosie’s favorite PCC memories is studying with fellow working moms who made returning to school feel possible and normal. She credits the faculty and staff at PCC with giving her the advice, connections, and confidence to pursue new opportunities throughout her career.
Her advice to current PCC students?
"Ask lots of questions, network with the instructors and staff, take their advice to heart, be willing to pivot, when necessary, but never give up on your dreams of a higher education. I would also encourage people to come back after graduation and take continuing education courses in other areas that seem interesting – even if it is outside the scope of your degree."
Rosie’s story is a powerful reminder that your educational journey doesn’t have to follow a straight line, and sometimes the willingness to come back, learn something new, and take the next step can make all the difference.
