🚨 ACTION ALERT- We know you are busy celebrating the last days of school and your time is precious. We would not ask if this issue was not critical. Last night, after most of us were in bed, the Senate suspended the rules allowing their Education Committee to hear a 133-page substitute that attaches an Education Savings Account, aka a voucher, to House Bill 100. HB 100, as passed by the House, would increase salaries and bump student funding to benefit teachers and children in public schools.
Texas PTA believes vouchers, no matter what you call them, siphon funding away from the children and families who rely on our already overregulated, overtested, and underfunded public schools.
Two weeks ago, you called the House Public Education Committee to ask them to say no to vouchers. Now, the Senate needs to hear from you! Using your thunderous voice on this issue again will take two minutes or less.

You may have heard that the district has come up with a plan to remove library assistants at ALL campuses. The library assistants are being offered other in-classroom aid positions, but this leaves our librarians in a very difficult position. Our librarians provide class lessons, enrichment, collaborate with teachers, and provide so much to each campus - library assistants are ABSOLUTELY necessary for them to do all that while maintaining the regular operations of the library.
If you agree and think this is worth mentioning and making your voice heard, please email the RRISD Board of Trustees; the head of HR, Eddie Curran; the Superintendent; and Dr. Natalie Nichols, the Senior Chief of Schools. If they go down this path, they will lose librarians, and that would be a huge loss because we have the best around in RRISD.
There is also a petition circulating to save the library assistants:
