June is Men’s Health Month: a time to recognize and celebrate the positive habits, relationships, and communities that help men thrive.

Throughout this month, we’ll be highlighting the many ways the fraternal experience contributes to men’s health and well-being. From stronger support systems and improved mental health to high campus involvement and professional success, we’ll provide data on why Fraternities Matter now more than ever before.

For our final post in honor of Military Appreciation Month:

Brother Dan Magill, Eta 1942/1992, was at the time of his retirement the winningest tennis coach in NCAA history. In his 34 year tenure as the Georgia Bulldogs tennis coach, they won 13 Southeastern Conference outdoor championships, 8 SEC indoor championships, and 2 national championships. He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.

Brother Magill also has a unique journey with Chi Phi. He pledged in 1942, but he was not initiated due to his service in the Marines during World War II. 50 years later, after continued support for the Chapter, he was officially Initiated into the Fraternity, receiving his badge and 50-year pin on the same day.

Thanks, once again, to the Boston Chi Phi Club for this fun fact! And, our heartfelt gratitude to all our Brothers who have served in the Armed Forces as well as to their families for their support and sacrifices.

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Brother Kevin Barnes, Mu Theta 2004--a man who embodied service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to Brotherhood.

After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Brother Barnes helped found the Mu Theta Chapter at the University of the Incarnate Word and continued to give back as a leader, advisor, and mentor. In 2021, he joined the Grand Council as Chi Phi’s first Alumni Engagement and Development Counselor, which was a role that reflected his passion for strengthening our Brotherhood.
