On April 1, 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped daily life across the nation, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp ordered K–12 schools to be closed for the remainder of the academic year, and a statewide shelter-in-place order was scheduled in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
Classrooms fell silent. Spring sports were canceled. Graduation plans shifted. And families across Georgia adjusted overnight to a new reality of virtual learning and social distancing.
It was a moment that marked an unprecedented chapter in Georgia’s modern history — one that reshaped education, work, and community in lasting ways.
During the pandemic, Georgia children shared messages of gratitude and hope through the Art from the Heart campaign. Young artists from across the state created drawings and notes to thank frontline workers for their dedication and sacrifice during an unprecedented time.
