We had some incredible guests today from our local retirement community who read stories to the children. One of them was even a former Co-op parent. Thank you all for a great day!

🦋 Beautiful Butterflies 🦋
Over the past few weeks, many of our classes have nurtured caterpillars and watched with anticipation as they turned into beautiful butterflies!

🎨Co-op Art on Display at the Bryant Library in Roslyn!

During the month of May, beautiful literature-inspired artwork created by the children in all of our classes will be on display in the children’s room at the Bryant Library in Roslyn! Be sure to visit to check it out!

A big thank you to Mrs. V, Mrs. Sluka, and Harjit Khosa for arranging and installing the beautiful displays.

An example of dramatic play happening in our Pre-K classroom:

Our family area has been transformed into a Veterinarian’s office, fully equipped with doctor coats, bandages, stethoscopes, and various tools for animal care. We began by reading about and discussing the job of a veterinarian. We set up a waiting room providing fiction and non-fiction books featuring information on various pets. The children have become fully immersed in this experience, bringing new ideas daily. Imaginative play and learning about occupations are vital in pre-kindergarten children. Role-playing scenarios allow children to act out and make sense of real-life situations. It fosters creativity, imagination, and social skills as the children collaborate.

MATH

Roll it, count it, write it!
This activity is a fun way for the children to practice the concept of subitizing. Subitizing is the instant visual recognition of a pattern of dots on a die. The children roll the die, count out stones, and place them on a ten frame. Adding a chalkboard to the game allowed the children to practice writing numbers.

Thank you Denise Mancilla, Early Intervention Service Coordinator of Nassau County for coming to the Co-op and  explaining the Special Education process to our parents.  It was an insightful presentation that benefited all families.

Here is our play based learning approach in action in one of our Pre-K classrooms.

We want to invite all perspective families to attend our open house Saturday, March 23rd from 10am-12pm. You will get a chance to meet our teachers, tour our school and experience first hand what makes the coop so special. Children will enjoy activities in each classroom and parents will have an opportunity to talk to current families and staff.
