Our STEAM enrichment class has been busy creating art with gravity! They started their exploration of gravity by watching a clip of astronauts in the International Space Station. Then they dripped watered down paint with a pipette on a canvas and watched as the paint fell down the paper. They continued this exploration by heading outside and dropping paint-covered pom poms from different heights to see what makes the biggest splat.

Our pre-k class enjoyed their time with a giant parachute. They worked together to follow directions as they created waves, “popped corn,“ and took turns going under the parachute. Cooperative games for young children help promote self-esteem, sharing, kindness, and teamwork as well as developing spatial awareness, and listening.

Children in our Tinker Tuesday class (an enrichment class for our three's) read the book “What Makes a Rainbow” by Betty Anna Schwartz and watched Dr. Binoc talk about rainbows. They learned that rainbows can only form in nature when it is sunny and raining.

They talked about other ways to form a rainbow and noticed how the light passes through a prism and splits into colors.

Then they made their own spectrometers. The children were very excited to look into the tube and see a rainbow! They experimented with different light sources. First they shined a flashlight into the top. That created a very bright rainbow! Then they tried with the classroom lights and near the window. Finally they went outside and pointed the spectroscopes to the sky.
