Our hearts are full. Very full. When we dropped Zoey off at her { } Summer Discovery program at Dartmouth College, we were all nervous. You could feel the tension as we checked her in, but I reminded Zoey of something. You have to get out of your comfort zone sometimes to find the things you love. And it paid off. BIG TIME.

For the next two weeks, she checked in with us occasionally to say things like, “I can’t talk right now, I’m going to a concert with my friends,” and “Every night we spread our blankets out on the quad and just listen to music,” and “I’m preparing for a UN simulation tomorrow. I’m Liberia!” I could hear the same thing in her voice on every call. Happiness. She was having the time of her life.

She got to live in a dorm, make friends from all around the world (the other day she was on the phone with her friend from Africa!), take an amazing class called Conflict Resolution and International Negotiation, get to know an amazing professor, chill out in a college town, sign up for afternoon clubs, and eat in a dining hall. It was the perfect way to give her a little taste of college before she goes.

Seriously, if you have a high schooler, you need to check out Summer Discovery. They offer courses in business, medicine, sports management, engineering, government, fashion, and more. On over 20+ college campuses.

After this experience, Zoey can’t wait to go to college. And even though we’re not ready to let her go, at least we’re feeling a little more comfortable about it.
