This is SO IMPORTANT to know.
Strangulation is one of the strongest predictors of future lethal violence in domestic abuse cases. Even when there are no visible injuries, strangulation can cause life-threatening internal injuries and long-term medical complications. It is never "just choking," and it should always be taken seriously. It is important to understand that you do NOT need to have any visible injuries to kill someone from strangulation, if fact, most strangulation survivors will not have any external visible marks.
The Placer County District Attorney's Office is committed to increasing awareness, improving education, and ensuring survivors, families, law enforcement, medical professionals, and community members have access to reliable information and resources.
That's why we've created the Strangulation Assault Response & Prevention (SARP) Portal- a centralized resource designed to provide:
• Information about the signs and dangers of strangulation
• Medical and legal guidance
• Local victim resources and support services
• Educational materials for professionals and the community
Whether you are looking for help, supporting someone you care about, or seeking to better understand the dangers of strangulation, this portal is here for you.

Together, through education, awareness, and collaboration, we can help prevent violence, support survivors, and build a safer Placer County.
