【輕輕推動一台智慧滑車,能看見多少物理?】

在今年的物理教育聯合會議現場,我們和老師進行了一場很有意思的討論。

一台在水平軌道上被「輕輕推動」的 PASCO 無線智慧滑車,看起來似乎就是簡單的等速運動。

但當我們把觀察尺度放大、提高取樣率,甚至將原始 CSV 數據交給 AI 分析後,卻發現同一段運動數據,可以呈現出截然不同的觀察結果。

從「看起來是等速運動」開始,我們進一步探索:

1.位置、速度、加速度數據究竟是如何產生?
2.取樣率越高,數據就一定越好嗎?
3.真實世界的摩擦與雜訊,如何反映在實驗數據中?
4.只給 AI 一張圖表,和提供完整 CSV 原始數據,有什麼差異?
5.我們該相信儀器與 AI 的結果,還是應該進一步驗證?

這場從一個簡單操作開始的討論,也讓我們重新思考:

⚡ Give students better data for exploring electricity, circuits, power, and energy.

📚 【今天是開學日!老師們,無線感應器記得充電了嗎?】

開學前這段時間,相信許多老師都正緊鑼密鼓地準備新學期的課程與實驗。

上週,我們也特別前往桃園一所國際學校,陪伴老師一起進行開學前的實驗備課。

這所學校長期使用 PASCO 的數位量測設備與數據分析軟體,不過面對新學期的開始,老師們也會遇到一些實際的問題:

「設備要怎麼操作?」
「這些感應器可以應用在哪些實驗?」
「如何把數據量測真正融入自然科學課堂?」

因此,我們的工程師特別到校,從實際操作出發,帶著老師一起探索這些設備如何應用在經典的自然科學實驗中。

🎀 What do red bow ties, a Florida beach, and science education have in common?

They’re all part of a PASCO tradition that started with our founder, Paul Stokstad.

Paul’s signature red bow tie eventually became part of the PASCO sales team uniform at science education conferences. The ties were famously retired in the late ’90s, only to make a comeback years later thanks to PASCO Sr. Marketing Director Brett Sackett.

This National Bow Tie Day, we’re sharing the story behind the bow ties and celebrating Paul, his unmistakable style, and a tradition that continues to connect generations of the PASCO team and science educators.

Momentum is far more memorable when students can watch it being conserved.
An air track provides one of my favourite ways of moving mechanics away from the formula sheet and into genuine experimental science.
Record the masses and velocities of two gliders immediately before and after a collision and students can test:
m1u1 + m2u2 = m1v1 + m2v2
But the experiment becomes much richer when we compare different types of collision.
With an approximately elastic collision, both momentum and kinetic energy may be close to conserved.
Arrange for the gliders to stick together and momentum is still conserved, but kinetic energy decreases as energy is transferred into sound, deformation, vibration and thermal energy.
Modern data capture makes this even more powerful. Students can see velocity changes almost immediately, compare graphs, investigate discrepancies and ask why experimental results never reproduce the idealised equations perfectly.
From there the same experiment can introduce impulse, force-time graphs, Newton's Third Law and the coefficient of restitution.
What begins as two gliders colliding can therefore become a lesson about something much bigger:
the difference between learning a conservation law and experimentally testing one.
Good practical physics should not merely demonstrate that the textbook is correct. It should give students enough evidence to decide whether the theory survives the experiment.
