Entrepreneurial freedom isn’t created by finding more hours to work.

It’s created by becoming more intentional about how those hours are used.

At yesterday’s Strategic Coach workshop, Program Coach Gina Pellegrini guided entrepreneurs through The Entrepreneurial Time System, a way of organizing their time around three distinct types of days: Free Days, Focus Days, and Buffer Days.

For many entrepreneurs, the greatest challenge isn’t organizing their calendar. It’s giving themselves permission to step away from work completely.

As Strategic Coach member Vincent Renda put it, “I have to stop filling my free time with work and start doing the things I want to do.”

Member Trey Mohr recognized the mindset behind that habit: “I tend to fill in free time with work because I tell myself I’m behind. That mindset is the problem.”

And member James McCabe shared the guilt that can make disconnecting so difficult: “If I’m not in the office working, I feel guilty that all these other people are putting in hard work and I’m going to screw up.”

That’s why Free Days come first in The Entrepreneurial Time System. They create space for rejuvenation, new perspectives, and the energy entrepreneurs need to perform at their best.

Focus Days are reserved for the high-value activities that generate results, while Buffer Days provide time to prepare, delegate, and build the structures that support both productivity and freedom.

And when a business idea tries to follow you into a Free Day, Dan Sullivan offers a helpful reminder: “If it’s a really good idea, it will come back to you.”

Because when every day has a clear purpose, entrepreneurs can be fully present—whether they’re producing results, preparing for what’s next, or enjoying life beyond the business.
