The talk will be a celebration of the tenth anniversary of Dr. Iwamura’s book, Virtual Orientalism (Oxford University Press, 2011), a groundbreaking study on Western media depictions of Asian religions and American popular culture. Repentance rituals such as the Emperor Liang Dharma Assembly constitute a key practice of the Chinese Buddhist tradition. The Emperor Liang repentance service is one of the most popular and widespread repentance services because it benefits both the living and the dead.
