What a fabulous first week of preschool at Ohana Day School in Grand Boulevard! We’ve been busy learning our classroom routines, exploring all the fun things our room has to offer, and getting to know one another. We’re already seeing sweet friendships begin to form and are so proud of how quickly everyone is settling in. We’re off to an amazing start and can’t wait for all the fun, learning, and memories ahead! 🍎🍏

Happy First Day!!! Couldn’t be more excited to get this year started!✏️🖍️✂️

Happy Father’s Day to all of our amazing dads! 💙

Last week, we asked the children what their dads do for work.

Watch to see what the kids think their dads do, followed by what the dads actually do. No matter the job title, these dads are heroes, role models, and the hardest workers in their children’s eyes.

To our ODS students,
How lucky we’ve been to watch you grow, learn, and become exactly who you are. It’s hard to put into words how much joy you’ve brought into our lives. Whether you’re heading off to kindergarten or returning for another year, please know that you have forever left your mark on us.
What we hope every family feels is this:
Your children are deeply loved here.
Not because of what they achieve, how quickly they learn, or how well they perform, but simply because they are themselves. Their unique personalities, curious minds, big feelings, and beautiful hearts are what make them so special.
Being part of these early years, the years that pass too quickly, is one of the greatest honors. Thank you, parents, for trusting us with your most precious gifts.

Love, Mrs. Hayden, Miss Milah & Mrs. Audrey

This was an incredible week in our classroom! 🐝🌎✨

We learned all about bees and why they are so important to our world, and we celebrated Earth Day by talking about ways we can help take care of our planet. We even had a real beekeeper visit our school to teach us how bees are cared for!

Students got to try on a beekeeper suit, explore the tools he uses, and see an empty hive with real honeycomb—what an unforgettable experience! 🍯

As if that wasn’t exciting enough, we watched our butterflies emerge from their chrysalises… truly magical moments we’ll never forget! 🦋

When we went outside to check on our garden, we discovered a delightful surprise—adorable garden gnomes had moved in and made themselves at home! 🌱🍄

We also had a wonderful mystery reader who read a book about making a spring bucket list. It was written by a local author!

So much learning, wonder, and imagination all in one amazing week!

Over the past two weeks, we have been diving into the wonderful world of books and learning all about their special parts! We explored the roles of authors and illustrators, discovered how the spine holds a book together, practiced the proper way to hold a book, and learned that we read words from left to right. But our very favorite part has been welcoming parents into the classroom for story time! These moments are so meaningful for both the children and their families. Something as simple as reading a story together truly makes your child’s week, and we feel so grateful to have such amazing parents who take the time to come share their love of reading with us!

Last week, ODS at 30Ave had so much fun learning all about insects! We explored the life cycle of a butterfly by observing our very own caterpillars, got hands on with a worm exploration (and safely released them after), and created spiders, ladybugs, and honeybees. We also learned about the importance of honeybees, how they make honey, and their role in pollination. We even played an insect themed Guess Who game! We wrapped up the week by watching Charlotte’s Web and enjoying some fun “creepy crawly” treats! 🐛🐝🕷️

Last week at Ohana Day School, we explored the wonderful world of seeds! 🌱

We investigated and tasted a variety of fruits with seeds and even gathered data on which ones were class favorites. The children loved getting hands-on by creating our very own garden on the playground—we’re already starting to see it grow!

Inside the classroom, we planted bean seeds in baggies to observe roots as they emerge and sprinkled grass seed to watch it sprout. Our centers were full of engaging, seed-themed activities that kept little hands busy and minds curious.
There was also lots of excitement for the grand opening of our pretend restaurant, Ohana Café! Students had a blast taking orders and learning how to use an old-school adding machine to create “real” receipts.

And of course, our classroom caterpillars have entered their next phase—we’re patiently observing their chrysalises and can’t wait to see what happens next! 🐛

Last week was buzzing with excitement in our classroom as we learned all about insects! 🐞🦋

We discovered that all insects have 6 legs and 3 body parts, and took a closer look at the life cycles of butterflies and ladybugs. Our class was especially thrilled to welcome real caterpillars into the room—we can’t wait to watch them grow and change!

The fun didn’t stop there—we created some amazing insect-inspired art, played silly bug games, and even went on bug hunts out on the playground. What a fun and fascinating week of learning! 🌿🐛
