On the Last Day of School Eve (is that a thing?), we got a message through Facebook: "Hey, this is Shaya. I think I've been at school every day this year..." So, we checked it out. Sure enough, Shaya had been in school each day! Not perfect - she came late once or twice and left early once or twice... but - she came to school! Every day!

Shaya, we are so proud of you for coming every day, for having the courage to advocate for yourself!!! AND... for making that cool pair of glasses you have on. I want you to do my pair, too! ;) Toksa ake!

Advika carries a stack of books wherever she goes — Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Dog Man, whatever she can get her hands on. She reads because she loves it! But that is not why she was standing in front of the school circle on the last day of school.

In fact — she was barely standing at all. She fractured her ankle two days ago. But instead of staying home, Advika came to school.

Why?

That's what we want you to think about. Why would she come to school with a built-in excuse like that? Because her friends and classmates need her here! The same way Memphis is needed at school. And Elias ...

A few weeks ago, a student mentioned that her mom couldn't bring cupcakes for her birthday. She hadn't gotten paid yet. Before an adult could respond, a boy in the class said: "What are you, homeless?" Advika didn't wait. She turned to him and said, plainly and directly: "That wasn't nice. That was mean." She just said what was true, and she said it fast — the way you do when it comes from somewhere real.

That is courage.

Advika, you stood up for your classmate when it would have been easier to stay quiet. You showed up this week when nobody would have blamed you for staying home. You choose kindness. You choose commitment. Again, and again. That is what a Panther looks like. Advika, you have the Heart of the Panther!

He did it! Kylow made it to school every single day, every single period - first bell to final dismissal! The only human in the building to do it! Congratulations, Kylow!

We took him to Mi Toro for lunch with a friend. Kylow wanted to bring Lennox along. Glad he had a friend nearby to wipe the whipped cream smile off his face. ;) The staff was great and sang a song to celebrate Kylow's "Perfect Attendance Day."
