Last Friday, the Sicangu Lakota Oyate Head Start/Early Head Start Program had the honor of celebrating Rachael McCloskey as she begins her well-earned retirement after 9 years and 9 months of dedicated service to our program, children, families, and community.

To recognize her years of commitment, we gathered for a retirement cookout and presented her with a star quilt, gifts, flowers, and a certificate of appreciation. Rachael’s contributions, hard work, and caring spirit have touched many lives throughout her time with Head Start.

Please join us in congratulating Rachael on her retirement and thanking her for her service to our program and the families we serve.

Thank you Rachael, and congratulations on your retirement! ❀️

Last Thursday, our RST Head Start and Early Head Start programs hosted our very first Wacipi, and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

It was amazing to see so many of our students, families, and staff come together to celebrate our culture, have fun, and make memories. From the dancing and singing to the smiles, laughter, and beautiful regalia, the day was filled with moments that reminded us why events like this are so important.

We want to send a huge thank you to all of the parents, guardians, family members, students, staff, volunteers, and everyone else who helped make the day possible. Your support and participation are what made this event such a success.

Since this was our first year hosting a Wacipi, we learned a lot along the way. We already have ideas for how to make next year's event even better, and we're excited to continue growing this tradition for our children and families.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us. We hope you enjoy looking back at some of the wonderful moments from the day!

Today, we want to recognize and thank Colin Whirlwind Soldier, our Lakota Language Coach, as today marks his final day with the Sicangu Lakota Oyate Head Start/Early Head Start Program.

During his time with our program, Colin shared far more than language. He shared culture, identity, humor, kindness, and connection with our students, staff, and families each day. His passion for preserving and teaching Lakȟótiyapi helped create meaningful experiences for our children and reminded us all of the importance of carrying our language and traditions forward.

While we are saddened to see him go, we are also excited for him as he begins a new journey with the Childcare Program. We know he will continue making a positive impact wherever he goes.

Colin, thank you for everything you brought to our program and our children. You will always be part of the Head Start family, and our doors will always remain open to you.

Please join us in wishing Colin happiness, success, and many blessings on this next chapter of his journey. Pilamaya ye for all you have done, you will truly be missed.

A few smiles from our Antelope classroom’s β€œMuffins for Moms” last week πŸ’›

Our students had such a good time spending the morning with their moms, grandmas, and loved ones while sharing muffins, treats, and special little gifts they worked hard on. Moments like these are always a good reminder of how important family connections are in our classrooms.

Thank you to all the families who came and made the morning so special for the kids. We loved seeing all the smiles and hugs! 😊

Big steps for our little learners! πŸ’›
Our Mato Early Head Start classroom visited the Kate Omaha Boy Head Start classroom as part of their transition activities. These visits help our students become more comfortable and confident as they prepare for the exciting move from EHS to Head Start.
From exploring the classroom to meeting staff and joining in on activities, our students are already getting a glimpse of their next big adventure. We are so proud of them and excited to watch them continue to grow, learn, and shine.
The future Head Start stars are on the move! ⭐
