Meghan Weiner, M.D. (’20) has become a physician owner of Pioneer Physicians Network, one of the largest independent primary care networks in Northeast Ohio.

A board-certified internist and lifestyle medicine physician, Dr. Weiner practices at Stow-Hudson Primary Care, where she focuses on chronic disease management, preventive care and women's health.

She became the network's 54th physician owner on May 1, 2026.

Sarah Vordenberg, Pharm.D. (’12), M.P.H. (’13) has received the
University of Michigan College Pharmacy's 2026 Teaching
Excellence Award, recognizing her exceptional contributions to
pharmacy education and student success.

A clinical professor and associate chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy, Dr. Vordenberg is known for her dedication to mentorship, innovative teaching and advancing patient-centered care. This is her second time receiving the award, having also been recognized in 2020.

As NEOMED’s founding chair of pathology, Howard Igel, M.D., was a respected clinician and faculty member. His legacy was recognized by his family with a significant gift to create the Igel Research Award in his memory.

Members of the Igel family, friends, faculty and staff of the University gathered for the presentation of the inaugural Igel Research Award to Jaclyn Welles, Ph.D., research assistant professor of biomedical sciences, on June 12.

Dr. Welles studies chronic liver disease. The Igel Research Award will help advance her work examining the role of copper in disease and hormone regulation in the liver.

“The impact of this award will extend far beyond a single project or a single award recipient. It is an investment into discovery, into innovation and into the future of medicine,” President Langell said.

NEOMED alumni Joseph Miladore, M.D. ('15), and Anthony Fossaceca, Pharm.D. ('15), recently returned to campus to record an episode of their podcast, Guardians of Medicine, featuring NEOMED President John Langell.

They explored Dr. Langell's unique journey to NEOMED, as well as the future of medical education, the growing role of AI in healthcare, and the importance of preparing students to become transformational leaders.
