Congratulations to RMED Medical Director, Dr. Heintzelman, for this well-deserved honor!

Congratulations to Alex Heintzelman, M.D. (’11) who was selected by students in the College of Medicine to be the 2025 faculty recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award. This award, presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, recognizes graduating medical students and faculty members who are exemplars of humanism in the care of patients.

Dr. Heintzelman is Associate Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Associate Program Director in Family Medicine at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. 👏

It's National Rural Health Day!
NEOMED's Rural Medical Education (RMED) program turns 10 this year! RMED empowers students from rural backgrounds to enter the medical profession and encourages rural training.
There are over 75 current RMED students and over 60 RMED alumni.
Many thanks to RMED's 45 rural physician preceptors for making the program possible, which include several alumni and clinical partners.

Many thanks to our amazing rural faculty preceptor, Dr. Matthew Inman!
Dr. Inman has precepted over 10 RMED students since 2017. He and his wife have a practice at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Health in Carrollton, Carroll County, Ohio.
Carrollton is just 1-hour south of NEOMED, and a great place for RMED students to gain exposure to rural medicine.

Congratulations to our graduating Rural (RMED) Pathway Class of 2023 - RMED's 5th class!
This group went through a great deal as their second year of medical school (and first year) were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ever resilient, this group was supportive of one another all the way. They even created the RMED Bicycle Club 🏍
Thank you to these freshly graduated alumni!
RMED is a student-centered learning community that provides students with an excellent experience through all four years of medical school. RMED students receive longitudinal advising and mentorship, rural training, and peer-peer support. Our goal is to address the rural physician workforce shortage and advocate for the health of rural populations.
