Dayanara Lohr, a fourth-year graduate student in Dr. Brett Schofield’s lab, traveled to the Kresge Hearing Research Institute at the University of Michigan for specialized training in light-sheet microscopy. With support from the Ted and Swanny Voneida Neuroscience Research and Training Fund, she trained in Dr. Michael Roberts’ lab to learn this powerful technique for visualizing neurons in 3D through tissue clearing.

Dayanara will bring this expertise back to advance her research on auditory pathway connections. The impact of this training is already taking shape—and we can't wait to see what comes next!

Join us in celebrating Huimei Wang, a third-year Ph.D. candidate in the Lu Lab, on successfully defending her dissertation last week! 🎉

Her research explored the role of mGluR5 signaling in the functional development of a calyceal synapse—an important contribution to our understanding of neural communication and development.

Congratulations, Huimei, on this incredible achievement!

NEOMED's Hearing Research Group proudly hosted more than 200 scientists and students for the Midwest Auditory Research Conference (MARC) — a leading forum for collaboration and discovery in hearing health and auditory neuroscience.

Now in its 10th biennial year, MARC 2025 featured presentations from experts at Harvard Medical School, New York University, University of Texas–Austin, and University Hospitals, highlighting advances in hearing science and innovations aimed at improving patient outcomes.

This year’s conference also marked the 20th anniversary of NEOMED’s Hearing Research Group, an accomplished team dedicated to understanding how we hear, how the brain processes sound, and how to treat disorders such as developmental hearing loss and tinnitus.

Thank you to all who joined us in celebrating two decades of groundbreaking work and collaboration in hearing research!
