Rookies Ready to Learn

The Rookies Parent Resource Library, focusing on Early Childhood, is open again with the start of school. The Library is located in East Elementary in Roosevelt. If you are in the Roosevelt area, we invite you to come in and see all there is available for checkout, including children’s books, educational games, puzzles, themed literacy kits and more! We also offer Rookie visits, where we sit down with parent and child for a fun hands-on lesson and activity made up of kindergarten readiness skills. These visits last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. We also offer Rookie visits in the surrounding areas of the Duchesne County School District. Those areas include Duchesne, Myton, Altamont, Neola, and Tabiona. Our primary focus is pre-k children ages 3-5.

Here we go again! We embark on another school year. This year may look a little different from years past. Rookie visits will still be available for parent and child at various schools throughout the district, but we are also going to be uploading videos that can be accessed through Duchesne County School District (dcsd.org) for each age group 3-5 year olds. The Rookie Parent Center, located at East Elementary School in Roosevelt, has reopened to the public again. Come in and check out some fun and educational books, puzzles, and games. (No appointment necessary)

If you would like to schedule a Rookie lesson for you and your 3-5 year old child, you can do so by going to the dcsd.org website. Go to Useful Links and scroll down to Educational Links and click on Rookies Ready to Learn. Appointments can also be scheduled by calling The Rookies Ready to Learn Center at (435) 725-4513.

Hi Rookie Families,
We were hoping that we would eventally get back to school before the end of the year and be able to continue to have Rookie Visits, but with the soft school closure now extended through the end of the school year the Rookie Library will remain closed. So, you can hold on to the Rookie Bags, books, and other items you have checked out until next fall, or they can always be dropped off at the DCSD District Office in Roosevelt. A HUGE shout out to Roosevelt Subway!! DCSD Rookies Ready to Learn program was the recipient of Subway's Pay-it-Forward for the month of October. We are so excited to have these new learning games and activities in the Rookie Parent Center!! A BIG THANKS!!

Upstart Free At-home Preschool Program
Now registering pre-k children ages 4-5, going to kindergarten 2020-21. Trying to spread the word about the Upstart Program.Upstart is a state-funded, in-home kindergarten preparedness program that will give your child a fun start in reading, math, and science (with a focus on reading), only 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week.
This is a fabulous program, I can't say enough about it! My youngest child did it and I was amazed at the progress he made with the program! We encourage all pre-k children to register. To register, you can visit www.utahupstart.org

Hi Everyone,
We work for Duchesne County School District in the "Rookies Ready to Learn Program", a Free Early Childhood program for ages 3-5 year olds. We'd love to meet with you and your child for a Rookie Visit at the Parent Center at East Elementary, Myton Elementary, Duchesne Elementary, Neola Elementary, Tabiona Elementary, or Altamont High School. A Rookie visit consists of age appropriate lesson materials and activities to do at home, and also a bag with books and activities that you check out, like a library item which you return at your next visit. These bags focus on retell, sequence, comprehension, rhyming, repetition, and prediction. The visit takes about 30 minutes. We are now in our new location at East Elementary. Our hours are the same as the school hours 8 to 3 Monday thru Friday. When you come to East Elementary stop in at the front office for a Rookie visitor sticker.

NO STORYTIME TODAY! Sadly, we will not be having story time today! We have throughly enjoyed having story time this school year and are very sad that we will not be able to continue, due to the Rookie center/library moving to a new location. Thank you to all that supported us this year!!
