Hello World. I feel like I've been underground and overwhelmed with grief. So many losses and this beloved land in such a state. I've surfaced to join storytellers around the world in the Scottish International Storytelling Festival. Last Saturday we shared stories and conversation with such a lovely audience of kind souls. Ah, there is still goodness remaining. Let's spread it around. Thursday I will tell two more stories with some wonderful people.

"Sheltering in place" here in Arlee with my three grandsons has afforded me lots of time to reflect and consider what type of world they are inheriting from us. Certainly this pandemic is a loud shout that should wake all of us up from our complacency or denial that our world is in crisis at every level. This crisis is violent. It is violent toward nature, it is violent to people of color, to the marginalized, and to the most vulnerable among us. It was so discouraging to listen to voices on mainstream media saying "we don't need a revolution." Yes, in fact, we do! We need a revolution of love and truth and compassion and integrity. This will not come from status quo politicians. Why do we gravitate to the familiar, when the familiar has not been life affirming? The first time I gave money to a political campaign it was to Bernie Sanders in 2016. Unfortunately, the country went with the old guard. Now again we had a chance for real change, and here we are back at the trough of a white moderate to be our democratic challenger to perhaps the most corrupt and ignorant leadership in the history of the U.S. Presidency - though American Indians have lived through numerous administrations that have been violent on every level, this administration never ceases to repulse every sense of our humanity. People, we need a revolution...for our children, our grandchildren and the unborn.

Strength and blessings to the heroes of this time - the nurses and doctors showing up to care for others, despite the danger to themselves. Let's all pray an embrace of love and courage and hope surround them. Call, text, email your representatives and demand that they have the equipment they need for themselves and their patients.

Look at this beautiful grandmother oak tree. She is estimated to be around 1,800 years old. The Pechhanga Band of Luiseno Indians recovered the land this tree is on and restored it to their reservation holdings. The presence of this old spirit is beyond description.

Peddling hope. A necessary action for all of us during times such as these. There are still heroes among us speaking truth, practicing kindness and generosity. Let's tell each other about them and be sure to tell kids their story. As the New Year comes I remember that love is stronger than hate and faith is more powerful than fear. Miracles are afoot! I've been off line since returning from New York. Had
to cancel my storytelling sessions in Edinburgh, Scotland, so I've been in Montana in this beautiful autumn season. I'll be performing BELIEF April 2020 at a gathering of elder Native women in California. Humbling and challenging to perform for such an esteemed audience. I'll keep you posted. These women are part of the Spirit Aligned Leadership Program.

My son Derek will be 43 this October. When he was a baby, we were living in Germany for about 6 months. At that time, you were required to bring your own bag or container for the groceries you purchased. It is sorrowful to witness the growth of single use plastic for groceries and for water. It is stunning that there is no ban on such plastics in our country. It was no inconvenience to me 43 years ago to bring my own container to the grocery store. This is Derek with my youngest yaya Orion.
