🎉 What a wonderful way to celebrate 50 years of Wilco Area Career Center! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our 50th Anniversary Open House! It was an incredible opportunity to celebrate Wilco’s history, reconnect with alumni and former staff, showcase our programs, and share our vision for the future. 💙💛

For 50 years, Wilco has helped students discover their passions, develop valuable skills, and prepare for careers and continued education. We are so grateful to the students, families, staff, alumni, community partners, and supporters who have been part of our journey.

Here’s to 50 years of learning, skills, opportunity, and success — and to many more years ahead! 🛠️🎓

We were excited to have a number of previous employees visit the Center last night including two former Directors who along with Dr. Kaufman represent 39 of the 50 year history of the Center. It was great to hear from Katrina Plese and Roger Clssr on their memories especially the 1984 President Reagan visit. We thank everyone for coming out and helping us celebrate. A Historic Day at Wilco! 🇺🇸

On October 16, 1984, Wilco Area Career Center welcomed a very special visitor—President Ronald Reagan!

During his visit to Wilco in Romeoville, President Reagan toured career and technical education classrooms, including the electronics, automotive, audio mechanics, and industrial programs. He also spoke with students and participated in a question-and-answer session.

President Reagan recognized the importance of students gaining practical skills and preparing for the rapidly changing world of technology and work. In his remarks, he encouraged students to look toward the opportunities ahead and to “aim high.”

Nearly four decades later, this moment remains a proud part of Wilco’s history—and a reminder that career and technical education has always been about preparing students for their future.

Last night we had an opportunity to tour the Pipefitters Local 597 facility. We are so fortunate to have great union training facilities in our region which are a key pathway opportunity for students.
