Our final Kids Art in the Park event of the summer was such a wonderful way to wrap up an incredible season!

This week we shared The Invisible String by Patrice Karst, a beautiful story about the invisible bonds of love that connect us to the people who care about us. As many children prepare to start school for the first time (or return to a new classroom after summer) this story offers a comforting reminder that even when we’re apart, we are always connected to the people who love us. It’s a wonderful book for helping children feel a little more confident and reassured as they begin a new school year.

After the story, each child created a special keepsake using a wooden person cutout. They added yarn hair, drew their own faces, designed clothing with fabric or markers, and attached a string to one hand before decorating it with colorful gems and shapes. We hope these little creations will serve as a reminder of the story’s meaningful message- that the invisible strings of love are always with us.

Together, the children also helped create a collaborative string art display by weaving colorful yarn between nails on a wooden board. This special piece will be displayed in our classroom as a memory of all the wonderful families and children we had the privilege of meeting throughout the summer. It will also serve as a daily reminder that, just as The Invisible String teaches us, we are all connected and “nobody is ever truly alone.”

As we wrap up this summer’s Kids Art in the Park series, we want to thank everyone who joined us. We had an amazing time at every event, and it was such a joy to spend our mornings reading stories, creating art, and building connections with so many wonderful families in our community. Thank you for making this summer so special, we hope to see you again soon! ❤️

Another fun-filled Kids Art in the Park event is in the books! This morning we read "Nature is an Artist" by Jennifer Lavallee and made sun catcher collages by gluing colorful pieces of tissue paper onto tracing paper. Getting to see nature through the children’s eyes as they created their collage was magical!

We have just one more Kids Art in the Park event left! It will be held this coming Tuesday, August 4th at the Gilcher-Crissman Park pavilion at 10am. We hope to see you there!

We had an amazing turnout for "Kids Art in the Park" today- thank you to everyone who joined us! It was such a fun and lively morning, and we loved seeing so many familiar and new faces enjoying time together outdoors.

Today’s story was A Bug and a Wish by Karen Scheuer, a sweet and meaningful book that teaches children how to speak up for themselves in a kind and respectful way when faced with unkindness.

After the story, the children created their own “Bug and a Wish” keepsakes to take home as a reminder of the book’s message. They made colorful bugs using pipe cleaners and beads, then crafted soft, fluffy dandelion “wishes” using white yarn and pipe cleaner stems. We loved watching their creativity and imaginations come to life!

We are so grateful for this wonderful community and can’t wait to see you at our next event!

What a lovely morning at "Kids Art in the Park!"
Today we read "Have You Seen Birds?" by Joanne F. Oppenheim.
The children had a lot of fun pointing out and talking about the birds they recognized in the story and even tried out the different sounds they make! It was a morning full of great conversation and laughter.
After our story, the children created their own yarn-wrapped birds, exploring color, texture, and fine motor skills as they worked.

Great news!! Our rescheduled Kids Art in the Park event at Gilcher-Crissman Park is set for Tuesday, August 4th at 10:00 AM!

Today’s "Kids Art in the Park" at Bruce Township Park was such a joy!

After reading "If You Find a Leaf" by Aimée Sicuro, the kids headed out on a little nature hunt- gathering treasures to turn into beautiful crayon rubbings.

The best part was seeing such a wide range of ages fully engaged in the creative process. From toddlers to elementary-aged kids, everyone was focused, curious, and proud of what they created!
