It was great having Dr. Cody Goss and Dr. Chris Sharp on our campus today for the Shorter University Music Education Symposium (part of our honor band festival). Thank you for educating and inspiring our future music educators.

What a long but amazing day Saturday at the 6th Annual Shorter University Music Education Symposium. We started the day with Shorter Alum and Rome City Teacher of the Year Andrew Wilfong leading an energizing elementary music session. Andrew truly showed why he is the Teacher of the Year. Then guest clinician Dr. James Killion worked a conducting session with the Shorter Chorale and choral music education majors. Thank you Dr. Killion for the tremendous impact you had on our students. The afternoon session was with CW2 David Proctor and the 116th United States Army Band working with Shorter instrumental music education majors on conducting technique. The evening concluded with a fantastic 116th United States Army Band concert at Coosa High School. Thank you to CW2 Proctor and the 116th Army Band for creating lifelong memories for the students. Thank you to Caleb McDonald and the Coosa High community for this joint effort to make this concert possible. Thank you to our wonderful Shorter University administration, Dr. Dowless and Dr. John Reams for their support. Thank you to my Shorter colleagues for assisting in this event: John Michael McCluskey Jerico Vasquez Bryan McDonald Lauren Denney Wright. Thank you to our amazing Shorter University Music students for a very memorable day. It was great seeing Shorter alumni attending this event as well.

Reminder, last NAfME meeting for this semester is this Friday, 11AM in room 208. Attendance is required of a music education majors. Honored guest Dr. McCluskey will be speaking.

Hello Everyone and welcome back to "the Hill" for the 2023-24 school year. We will have our first NAfME meeting this Friday, September 1st at 11:00 - 11:50 AM in room 208. Attendance is expected of all music education majors. Please spread the word to freshmen as they may have no idea what NAfME is or the expectation. See everyone Friday!

We had a great time at our 5th Annual Shorter University Music Education Symposium this past weekend. Thank you to our clinicians Robert Hinckley - Music Minister at LifePoint Community Church in Deland, FL, Jason Gann - music teacher at Mission Road Elementary School in Cartersville, GA, Dr. Joseph Vargo - Orthodontist at Vargo Orthodontics in Rome, GA, and Shorter Alumni Noah Hunt, Tiffany Hunt, and Brian Presley.

It was great getting out in the public schools over the past few weeks and working with some area high school bands. Thank you to Sam Iddings and Cass High School, Tim Burton at Model High School, Caleb McDonald at Coosa High School, Mike Bright at Adairsville High School, and Neal Crawford at Gordon Central High School. These are great band programs and I really enjoyed working with their students. Band music education in Northwest Georgia is in good hands. Good luck to all the bands at LGPE this week.
