Physics undergraduate Arpith Mysore took this amazing picture of a recently discovered supernova through the observatory telescope. The host galaxy NGC 5907, also known as Splinter or Knife Edge Galaxy, is located 50 million light-years from Earth. The supernova coined SN2026kid was first detected on 22nd April.
Arpith is an accomplished astrophotographer and heavily involved in the S&T Astronomical Research Society - STARS.

Dr. Shun Saito, associate professor of physics, was one of the contributing researchers to the database of the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX) that was made public today. The data will allow astronomers to study how the first galaxies formed and evolved, measure how gas and stars were distributed within these galaxies, and map the large-scale structure of the cosmos. Postoctoral researcher Hasti Khoraminezhad and graduate student Deeshani Mitra also contributed to the work.
S&T researchers contribute to cosmic dataset now available to the public
On Wednesday, June 3, researchers affiliated with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX), released all of its database to the public. Built from more than half a petabyte of raw and processed data, it will allow astronomers to study how the first galaxies formed and evolved, meas
