Every August, the department holds a retreat to celebrate the previous year and to plan for the year ahead. Today we celebrated some milestones and recognized outstanding work. Dr. McManus is celebrating 25 years at S&T and Dr. Sheppard is celebrating 15 years. We also presented Dr. Bruening with the Constance Brown Faculty Excellence Award for his research, teaching, and service in 2025 and Dr. Sheppard earned the Faculty Service Award. A big thanks to our retired faculty members for serving on the selection committee.

As we get ready for a new academic year, we're reflecting on what our graduates tell us about their experiences. We always ask "why did you choose to become and history major?" Here's one answer: "It's a broad enough field that you have enough options. History is recognized and accredited as a major but it provides a lot of flexibility in terms of what you can do and what job you can get."

Have a great first year, Mayce!!!

Let's welcome to RHS today Ms. Mayce Barber! Ms. Barber will be starting her first year of teaching after graduating from Missouri S&T this past May. Ms. Barber student taught within the North Kansas City School District and has also been a substitute for Rolla Public Schools. At RHS, Ms. Barber will be adding to our Social Studies Department and will be teaching American History and World History. She will also be coaching 8th grade girls basketball!

When asked what she is looking forward to this school year, Ms. Barber replied, " I cannot imagine a better place to start my career as an educator! I am excited for a fun and fulfilling year!
