Meet Matik Heskin and Adam Boland! By day, they’re doctoral students at Missouri S&T, researching hypersonic vehicles and high-temperature materials. By night (or at a moment’s notice), they’re rushing to respond to emergencies with the Rolla Rural Fire Department.

What started as a class project at Missouri S&T is now a sustainability startup with big potential. 🎨🌱
Students Adrianna Sasser and Karly Butts created “MicroHues,” a company developing eco-friendly paints made from microalgae and cyanobacteria. Their mission is to reduce pollution and microplastics while creating safer, more sustainable art materials.
The startup has already won multiple pitch competitions and grants as the founders continue refining their biodegradable paint products for artists.
A cleaner coat: S&T students launch paint sustainability startup ‘MicroHues’ Adrianna Sasser and Karly Butts didn’t expect a class project at Missouri S&T to turn into a business. Now, the two are developing sustainable paints through their startup, MicroHues.
