🐾 Important Update:
Animal areas will be tour-based only this year — no open walk-throughs.
Campers who bring their ambassador bead can lead animal tours independently; all others will join a guided tour.

We’re excited to announce the addition of Ollie and Oph, a frisky pair of Asian small-clawed otters who joined us this fall, and much to our surprise, had two twin babies who will be making their first public appearance. Their eyes have just opened and you’ll be among the first to see them during the tours 💛

It's always a fun weekend when Alumni come to visit!

This past weekend, we welcomed former (and future!) staff for our annual Friendsgiving alumni weekend. We hiked to the glade, made animal enrichment, and shared a thanksgiving meal together. A perfect fall weekend 🍂

A big farewell and heartfelt thank you to Claireesa, who recently wrapped up her position at camp after three years as a year-round staff member, and an incredible 17 years as part of the Cub Creek community!

Over the years, Claireesa has been a camper, ASIT, Photographer, Health Lodge Assistant, Office Manager and Program Director. Her dedication, laughter, and care have touched countless campers and staff along the way.

As she looks forward to welcoming a new addition to her family, we're thrilled for this next exciting chapter in her life. She's not going far, we're sure to see her at camp events for years to come. And in just a few short years, the next generation will be ready to make their own Cub Creek memories!

Another awesome visit to S&T yesterday to meet students from local schools as part of their afterschool programs. Students are learning about animal adaptations and biomimicry and we were happy to bring along some animals to help with their projects.

Pearl our Umbrella Cockatoo made her education debut and did a great job!

We are saddened to share that Gadget, our Pale Fox, has passed away from age-related illness.

Gadget joined camp in 2012 and quickly became a favorite among campers. He loved belly scratches, playing with toys, and, in his later years, soaking up naps in the sunshine. At over 14 years old, Gadget lived well beyond the expected lifespan of his species, and we are grateful for every extra year we were able to share with him.

Welcome back Emma!

We are excited to share that Emma has joined our year-round team as Assistant Animal Program Director.

In her 13 summers at camp she has been a camper, ASIT, Counselor, Animal Specialist, Photographer, and ASIT leader, as well as an Animal Care Intern during the off-season. Her favorite camp animal is Clover the Bush Baby, and outside of the animal area her favorite part of camp is the ropes course.

Emma graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in zoology from North Carolina State University. She is excited to care for camps animals, and share her knowledge and experience with our interns, ASITs, and campers all year long.

You might see some familiar faces - Mar and Jewel have stayed on from the summer, and are joined by Marie. They will spend the fall caring for our animals and gaining valuable experience for their future careers.
