How do engineers determine whether a bridge is safe after a major impact? ๐Ÿ‘ท๐Ÿšง

Missouri S&T's Dr. Mohamed ElGawady recently explained to ABC 33/40 why evaluating damage to the County Road 87 bridge over I-65 in Alabama involves much more than patching concrete. Hidden structural damage can require extensive analysis before repairs begin.

Concrete crash barriers recently completed a 350-mile journey from Manhattan, Kansas, to Missouri S&T in Rolla, where they are undergoing full-scale crash testing using the university's impact simulator.

In collaboration with Dr. Hayder A. Rasheed at Kansas State University, Dr. Mohamed ElGawady and his research team are evaluating practical retrofit solutions aimed at improving the safety and performance of existing substandard roadway barriers.

A well-deserved recognition for a Miner alumnus who has spent more than three decades changing how the world thinks about solving the world water crisis.

Water.org co-founder and CEO, Gary White, is being honored with the 2025 Hoover Medal, one of engineeringโ€™s highest humanitarian honors at World Water Week in Stockholm.

Garyโ€™s vision that was initiated at Missouri S&T (UMR) has pioneered new approaches to financing water and sanitation, contributing to more than 92 million people gaining access to safe water or sanitation through Water.orgโ€™s solutions.

๐Ÿš๐Ÿ’š It's mean, it's green, it's the Mystery Machine! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿš

Project X teams were hard at work this week building and customizing remote-controlled vehicles before racing them to the finish line. ๐Ÿ

Did this crew of first-year detectives solve the mystery and take home the trophy? ๐Ÿ†

Congratulations! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Congratulations! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‘ A quick shoutout and congratulations to our CEC Deanโ€™s Undergraduate Research Scholars who completed their second semester in the program this spring! ๐Ÿ”ฌ

Their projects focused on recovering gadolinium from MRI contrast waste, materials for hypersonic aircraft, PFAS remediation, a 3D-printed airfoil that can switch between wing and propeller shapes for drones, and imaging technology for inspecting nuclear fuel casks. โœˆ๏ธโš›๏ธ

Well done, Quinten Bachman, Parker Barnes, Christopher Beck, Christy Johnson and Hossein Libre!

And thank you to their faculty advisors: Dr. Amber Pete, Dr. Phil Mulligan, Dr. Tayfun Akyurek, Dr. Hunter Schroer and Dr. Greg Hilmas.
