All of the Outstanding Student Award Winners from the Gamma Theta Chapter are highlighted on pages 32-34; the chapter has nominated six winners since the award started in 1964. 🎉 Missouri S&T IEEE-HKN Chapter Earns Global Recognition

Missouri S&T’s Gamma Theta Chapter of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) has received the 2024-2025 Outstanding Chapter Award, recognizing the top chapters worldwide for excellence in service, leadership and engagement.

Selected from 280 chapters around the globe, this award highlights exceptional performance in scholarship, character and attitude — the core ideals of HKN.

The chapter will be formally recognized at the ECEDHA Annual Meeting in March 2026.

Jordan Slusser, Miranda Sullenger, and Jackson Aholt led the ECE Department’s efforts to welcome admitted students. These student leaders in the Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) honor society organized the HKN Chapter and IEEE Student Branch in writing personalized cards for Miner Hearts Week. Cards were completed for 286 students interested in Electrical Engineering and 160 students interested in Computer Engineering. Each admitted student will receive a message from a current student as part of the campus Valentine-themed outreach. S&T Admissions partnered with each department to build our campus community.

Dr. Steve E. Watkins, alumni and faculty advisor to the Gamma Theta chapter, and Dr. Thomas Ga***rd, alumni of Gamma Theta and faculty advisor to the Georgia Tech HKN chapter, were in the inaugural class of recipients for the Advisors of Distinction Award by IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN). The recognition is for long-term service as advisors to HKN chapters. President Sean Bentley, Past President M. Ryan Bales, and Award Chair Christian Winingar presented the award. See

The Gamma Theta Chapter of IEEE-HKN is well represented on the governing board for 2026 by several chapter alumni. Marcus Huggans will serve as president-elect, Sean Bentley will serve as immediate past president, and Logan Wilcox will serve as student governor. Also, M. Ryan Bales will serve as treasurer.
